Vietnam Airlines is offering extra flights to cope with increased travel demand during the peak National Day break from August 30 to September 4.

According to local media, the total number of seats available on both domestic and international routes during the holiday will be approximately 500,000, corresponding to nearly 2,500 flights.

The airline is focusing on domestic routes between Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and popular destinations such as Danang, Dalat, Cam Ranh, Hue, and Phu Quoc. The total number of domestic seats will reach 330,000, equivalent to over 1,700 flights, an increase of more than 19 per cent compared to the same period in 2023.

International routes covered by the extra services include India, China, Thailand, and Australia. The total number of international seats will exceed 150,000, corresponding to over 650 flights, a slight increase from last year.

Vietnam Airlines reported that key domestic tourism routes are already nearly 50 per cent full and expects bookings to continue rising rapidly in the coming days. The aforementioned international routes are also performing well, with load factors ranging from 50-70 per cent.

A Vietnam Airlines representative stated that ensuring capacity during the National Day peak period is a significant effort for the airline, given the aviation industry's aircraft shortage due to the global engine recalls for inspections by manufacturers.

Recently, Vietnam Airlines has received one additional Airbus A320neo and one Boeing 787-10 to enhance its capacity for peak travel demand.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has issued a document to Vietnamese airlines regarding operational plans for the National Day holiday period.

The CAAV instructed Vietnamese airlines to coordinate with travel agencies to develop plans for key domestic and international tourist destinations. This aims to support, promote, and enhance both domestic and international tourism.

Airlines need to coordinate with ground service providers, especially on night flights. Simultaneously, they should maintain and maximise their operational capabilities while ensuring safety.
