According to reports from the Hanoi Department of Health and relevant districts, the number of COVID-19 infections increased to 20 by February 2. These infections can be tied to the outbreaks in the northern provinces of Quang Ninh and Hai Duong.

Hanoi has intensified tracing, localising, testing, and quarantining people who had close contact with them, while treating infected patients.

Hue emphasised that the pandemic is developing seriously with high risk of further infections. He added that the risk may be prolonged. He asked relevant units to give priority to the prevention and fight against COVID-19 before, during, and after the country’s traditional Lunar New Year holiday, while taking measures to maintain business activities and goods trading so as to maximally reduce negative impacts on production and business.

“Tracing and detection must be done faster and earlier, promoting the role of community monitoring groups, going to each lane and houses to collect health declarations,” he requested.

Measures to increase people’s awareness about the Ministry of Health’s prevention recommendations, including masks wearing. It is also necessary to build quarantine areas, including Tu Hiep and Hanoi High-Tech College, and study the possibilities of building field hospitals at Bac Thang Long Hospital and others.

The leader also asked the municipal People’s Committee to direct relevant units to work on meeting the demand for essentials among the locals, and increasing e-commerce activities, as well as preventing profiteering activities and ensuring COVID-19 prevention activities at trade centres.

He also asked five working groups from the Standing Party Committee of the municipal People’s Committee to intensify inspection and checks at high-risk areas like industrial parks and schools.

Regarding the COVID-19 vaccine, the Secretary asked the municipal People’s Committee to work with the Ministry of Health and report to the government about the purchase, and asked the local health sector to make plans, allocate budget, and mobilise funds for the work.
