The project commenced on June 30, 2020, invested by National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) and managed and operated by CPMB. The feasibility study report, technical design, and shop drawings were prepared by PECC3.

The project includes two 500/220/35kV-450MVA AT1 and AT2 transformers in phase 1, installing a 500kV-450MVA AT1 transformer; a 500kV line bay, a 220kV line bay to connect AT1 transformer to C51 and C21 busbars at 500kV Nghi Son 2 distribution yard and 220kV Nghi Son 1 distribution yard.

It is the first substation built in Thanh Hoa to release the power capacity of Nghi Son 2 thermal power plant and contribute to meeting the power demand of Thanh Hoa and the neighbouring area.

In the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and bad weather due to storms, the substation achieving operations on schedule is the result of continuous efforts by CPMB and contractors.
