USI breaking ground on its new facility at DEEP C Industrial Zone in Haiphong |
The 65,000-square-metre plant attracted the investment of $200 million in the initial phase. USI will produce electronic circuit boards for wearable devices (watch, phone, earphone) to supply the world’s top electronic companies. During this phase, USI commits the capacity to produce up to 14 million products, equivalent to 57.6 tonnes annually, creating 2,000 jobs in full production and leveraging advanced technology to promote digital transformation in Haiphong.
Construction work is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2021, followed by initial commissioning and testing period. An official production launch is targeted for the third quarter of 2021. The future investment scale and plan will be determined according to the needs of customers and company development. For the moment, USI expects to increase the investment capital to $400 million in the next phase.
Kuei Chun Chi, manufacturing service director of USI affirmed that the sizeable investment in the Southeast Asian facility was intended to move USI closer to their overseas customers and accommodate their customer’s ever-increasing demand. In addition, the preferential economic zone tax incentives and competitive labour cost give USI significant advantages in international competition.
“The plant we are building in Vietnam constitutes a key element in our approach to increase manufacturing capacities on a global scale,” said Kuei Chun Chi.
