A significant increase in both domestic and international arrivals boosted Hanoi's tourism during the National Day holiday from August 31 to September 3.

Numerous tourism-promotion activities, cultural events, and entertainment programmes were organised to draw tourists to the capital over the four-day period.

According to a report from Hanoi Department of Tourism on September 3, the total number of tourists to Hanoi during the holiday reached nearly 673,000, up 5 per cent from 2023, generating over $87.2 million in revenue, up 8.3 per cent on-year.

This figure encompassed around 58,900 international tourists, marking a notable 35.8 per cent increase compared to the previous year, and 614,000 domestic tourists, a slight increase of 3.6 per cent over the same period last year.

Tourists from markets such as India, South Korea, China, Japan, and Taiwan accounted for the largest number of arrivals.

Hotel occupancy averaged 61 per cent, with several 4-5 star hotels such as the Pullman Hanoi and the Sheraton Hotel operating close to or at full capacity. Shopping malls, entertainment venues, and restaurants all reported significant increases in footfall and sales during the holiday.

Tourist attractions were decorated and a series of events were held to welcome visitors and locals alike. Numerous events and festivals celebrating Independence Day were successfully organised, drawing significant interest from tourists.

One of the standout events was the Ao Dai Bicycle Parade, which took place on September 1. This event, coordinated by Hanoi Department of Tourism in partnership with the Thang Long Heritage Conservation Centre and the Vietnam Village Communal House Club, aimed to further elevate Hanoi's image as a safe, friendly, high-quality, and attractive destination.

Speaking at the event, Tran Trung Hieu, deputy director of Department of Tourism, remarked that this initiative aims to showcase the beauty of Hanoi through its tourism sector, while also raising community spirit and enhancing heritage awareness. "The goal of this parade is to showcase Hanoi’s tourist attractions and introduce novel experiences that captivate both domestic and international visitors, ultimately driving tourism growth," said Hieu.

In addition to well-known landmarks such as the Temple of Literature, the Hoan Kiem Lake area, Thang Long Imperial Citadel, and One Pillar Pagoda, new tourist destinations including entertainment complexes such as Lotte Mall Tay Ho, and Vinhomes Ocean Park also attracted numerous tourists.

Hanoi Department of Tourism conducted safety inspections at several crowded tourist sites, including the Temple of Literature, Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Thang Long Imperial Citadel and Hoan Kiem Lake. The inspection showed that these sites were well-prepared for the influx of visitors, ensuring public safety, traffic order and environmental sanitation, with no negative incidents reported.
