The 220kV power transformer is a critical link in the renewable energy delivery value chain

Hitachi ABB Power Grids recently supplied and commissioned a 220kV power transformer to Toji Group for the fast-tracking of the 50MWp Loc Ninh 5 Solar Power Plant to close out the Loc Ninh 1-5 series of solar projects with a total capacity of 800MWp in the southern province of Binh Phuoc, developed by Hung Hai Group. This makes it one of only two companies in Vietnam capable of manfacturing and supplying 220kV power transformers.

To power its economy – one of the fastest-growing countries in the region – Vietnam aims to tap into its tremendous renewable energy potential, seen in 4-5kWh per square metre of solar incidence and 3,000 kilometers of coastlines with consistent winds in the range of 5.5 to 7.3 metres per second.

With a proven track record, Hitachi ABB Power Grids is committed to powering good for a sustainable energy future, with pioneering digital technologies, as the partner of choice for enabling a stronger, smarter and greener grid.

The 220kV power transformer is a critical link in the renewable energy delivery value chain.

“We are excited to partner with Vietnam to strengthen its electrical networks and integrate more renewable energy. Expanding local manufacturing of essential equipment in the country will help us contribute to that,” said Chandan Singh, managing director, Hitachi ABB Power Grids Vietnam Co., Ltd. “Enhancing the manufacturing facilities of power transformers is one step in that direction.”

Hitachi ABB Power Grids’ power transformers facility in Hanoi recently upgraded its transformer manufacturing and testing facilities from 171 to 230kV. Local manufacturing capabilities will help meet quick turnaround times required for solar and wind power plants, creating a credible local service ecosystem and reducing transportation costs for customers.

Hitachi ABB Power Grids is a global technology leader with a combined heritage of almost 250 years, employing around 36,000 people in 90 countries.

Headquartered in Switzerland, the business serves utility, industry, and infrastructure customers across the value chain, and emerging areas like sustainable mobility, smart cities, energy storage, and data centres.

With a proven track record, global footprint, and unparalleled installation base, Hitachi ABB Power Grids is committed to powering good for a sustainable energy future, with pioneering digital technologies, as the partner of choice for enabling a stronger, smarter, and greener grid.

Toji Group is Hitachi ABB's strategic partner for transformer, high-voltage equipment, medium-voltage switchgear and computerised control system.

Established in 2002 with a head office in Hanoi, TOJI Group is one of the top companies in Vietnam specialising in engineering, procurement, and construction execution for substation up to 500kV voltage, significantly contributing to the country's energy development.
