According to Danang Department of Tourism, the city saw a strong recovery in tourism from the start of this year. In the first quarter, the total number of guests staying was estimated at more than 1.42 million, up over 365 per cent on year. The total revenue from accommodation, food, and travel services was estimated at $226.3 million, up nearly 75 per cent on year.

Danang continues to lead the country in revenue growth of accommodation and catering services, followed by Quang Ninh, Can Tho, Ho Chi Minh City, Thai Binh, and Dong Nai. Accommodation revenue is estimated at more than $87 million, up more than 177 per cent, while food and beverage revenue is nearly $139.1 million, up about 40 per cent.
Grand Mercure Danang has benefited from the pickup in tourism, with impressive business results. The hotel’s general manager David Coyle said the result not only proved Danang’s attractiveness as a destination, but also served as a motivation for those in the sector.
He said that the restoration of international flights was a significant boost to Danang tourism. Currently, the city has 16 regular international flight routes operated by 20 airlines, and the frequency of international flights is estimated at more than 280 flights per week, with more than 560,000 international arrivals.
“Grand Mercure Danang achieved great results for the first quarter of 2023, especially in March with the highest monthly average occupancy in the hotel’s 12 years of operation thanks to the support from international flights, tours, and strong support from local businesses,” Coyle said.
“Danang has been receiving support from many international markets, especially South Korea and Taiwan. In addition, Accor Group with its excellent booking system also contributed significantly to our growth in occupancy in the first quarter,” he added.
In the upcoming peak season, tourism in Danang is forecast to explode, when a series of unique events. Firstly, the city will revive the Danang International Fireworks Festival following a three-year hiatus. Scheduled for June 3-July 8, the festival expected to have eight participating teams, comprising seven international teams and one from Danang.
In addition, the city is set to launch its beach tourism season from April 28 at East Sea Park, Son Tra Peninsula, including the beaches of My An, My Khe, and Nguyen Tat Thanh. The initiative has become a cultural, sports, and tourism event attracting many visitors.
“I appreciate that the city is restoring such special events, which will greatly help the tourism sector continue to grow,” said Coyle.
According to Coyle, the hotel has prepared the best options and services for visitors. In parallel, the hotel will put open new products, including its new restaurant, Veranda Vietnamese, which is to offer authentic cuisine from north and south. The restaurant is expected to become the next quality product of Grand Mercure Danang, as the hotel’s existing Golden Dragon restaurant is already regarded as among the best in the city.
Grand Mercure Danang chef Thach has created a unique culinary journey with a menu that includes favourite dishes from across the country. While retaining the local culture and traditional recipes, Thach also adds his own twist. With his personal stamp, Thach will ensure that Veranda Vietnamese offers diners a fascinating culinary experience.
“This is our second restaurant, next to the famed Golden Dragon restaurant, and it will become a unique place to entice domestic and foreign customers. We look forward to introducing unique Vietnamese cuisine,” Coyle added.
