This is a partnership between the Ministry of Planning and Investment's NIC and Google to support Vietnam's digital transformation by providing digital skills training to approach more job opportunities and develop Vietnamese startups.

MPI Deputy Minister Tran Quoc Phuong said that Vietnam's innovation ecosystem is developing in an important period, requiring a lot of investment and support to be able to develop innovative startups and high-quality human resources.

“I am confident that the two programmes will achieve the goals set forth to develop and enhance human resources for startups to develop technology solutions," said Phuong.

According to AlphaBeta's report Unlocking Vietnam's Digital Potential, if fully utilised, digital transformation can bring an annual economic value of up to $74 billion to Vietnam by 2030. Two of the action pillars include developing the domestic technology ecosystem and training digital skills for workers and students.

In 2021, Vietnam reported 5,600 new technology companies, along with high demand for digital workers, such as in IT and data analytics.

The two programmes are expected to help the industry by providing more learning and development opportunities for talent and startups in Vietnam.

Google Career Certificates is a flexible, online digital training programme based on the Coursera platform that helps students with no experience or certain knowledge be ready to apply for a job with five intensive courses: IT Support, Project Management, Data Analytics, User Experience Design, Digital Marketing, and E-commerce.

Additionally, Google will cooperate with NIC to offer 20,000 scholarships to students from more than 40 universities and vocational schools in Vietnam, who have a passion for IT but cannot access it.

The programme also provides about 3,000 scholarships for businesses and individuals, for which they can register under nhantaiso.nic.gov.vn.

Through the Startup Academy, 50 participating businesses have the opportunity to access in-depth training, thereby speeding up the progress of growing their business and going international.

The five main elements that the programme focuses on are leadership skills, the latest models and trends, product management, technologies, and marketing.
