The 2023 Hanoi Tourism Festival "Connecting heritage for tourism development" lasting from March 24-26, has contributed to attracting domestic and international tourists to the capital and opened up opportunities promoting the city's cultural heritage.

At the opening of the Hanoi Tourism Festival 2023 on the evening of March 24, Nguyen Manh Quyen, vice chairman of Hanoi People's Committee said: “The festival is the gathering place of unique and special values of tourism associated with tangible and intangible cultural heritage, the values of craft villages, and the cuisine of Hanoi and neighbouring localities, contributing to the development of tourism products for domestic and foreign tourists."

The special feature of this year's festival is that it does not focus too much on display, but on promoting upgraded or renewed tourism products, with many promotions and discounts.

The festival gathered about 150 stalls from 12 districts in Hanoi and 14 other localities, as well as nearly 100 units including airlines, tourism businesses, tourist resorts, food, and craft villages around Hanoi.

The main activities of the festival included a conference on tourism product development and market development, and a 'Famtrip programme' called "Heritage journey" to introduce typical tourism products in destinations in Hanoi. Attractive art shows, a tourist cyclo parade, and a show to recreate the traditional wedding ceremony of the capital were part of the event.

Visitors participating had the opportunity to explore scenic spots and attractive tourist destinations, such as a hands-on experience tour connecting the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long - Vinh Nghiem Pagoda - Tay Yen Tu and Tay Yen Tu, and Co Loa Citadel..

This year's festival also has a dedicated area to introduce and experience tourism at Dinh Tien Hoang Street, an area to introduce ancient craft villages in Hanoi such as the famed Chuong village conical hat, Ha Thai lacquer, and Quat Dong embroidery. An octagonal house and the typical food and beer experience of Hanoi during the subsidy period at Le Trach Street were also introduced at the pedestrian area around Hoan Kiem Lake.

According to the Hanoi Promotion Agency, nearly 1,000 groups of new tourism products with various forms of promotions and discounts from 15 to 30 per cent, as well as attractive gifts were brought to the festival by tour operators.

Hanoi has among the most domestic airline routes in and out of the city. In which, Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City is considered the 'golden route' of Vietnam's aviation industry.

In 2022, the total number of tourists to Hanoi will reach 18.7 million, a near fivefold increase compared to 2021, and total revenue from tourists will reach over $2.6 billion.

In the first two months of 2023, the total number of tourists to Hanoi was estimated at 3.73 million, nearly three-times times over the same period in 2022.

Along with many activities to experience cultural tours, large-scale demonstration activities, the Hanoi Tourism Festival 2023 was expected to bring visitors to the capital interesting experiences and contribute to stimulating demand.

In 2023, Hanoi was voted by the World Travel Awards as the best short-term tourist city in the world. Tripadvisor also voted Hanoi as the city in the top three in terms of attractive local cuisine.

Such awards provide a premise for Hanoi's tourism to make a breakthrough in 2023 and the following years with the goal of becoming a leading attractive destination in Asia and the world, building a culinary brand deemed: "Hanoi - a kitchen and dining area of the world."
