The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), the Hanoi Promotion Agency (HPA), and Japan’s leading retailer AEON on April 25 held a conference connecting Vietnam’s producers and exporters to AEON Group’s global supply chain.

The conference aims to increase Vietnam’s goods exports to AEON’s retail chains to $500 million in 2020 and $1 billion in 2025.

During the event, experts from AEON gave consultancy about technical standards, product quality, and logistics to potential groups looking to join the supply chain of AEON, as well as shared experience about exporting from Vietnam to Japan in general and to AEON’s network in particular.

Also, a networking session between AEON and Vietnamese firms in textile, consumer goods, food, and cosmetics was also held as part of the conference.

The conference is part of AEON’s preparations for its upcoming opening of a new mall in Hanoi later this year. In addition, the retailer’s sixth commercial centre in Vietnam, AEON MALL Haiphong Le Chan, is expected to be put into operation in 2020.

To attract more suppliers and manufacturers, AEON Vietnam is co-operating with the MoIT, the HPA, and others.

AEON Vietnam is said to have so far partnered with over 2,000 domestic suppliers to sell over 40,000 products in AEON’s shopping centres and supermarkets nationwide. The retailer is now seeking more local and foreign suppliers for its retail chain in Vietnam, including four AEON Malls, 53 supermarkets, and 110 convenience stores.
