This year, Vietnam outshone notable contenders such as Armenia, Brazil, Egypt, Greece, Japan and Saudi Arabia to secure the prestigious prize.

In addition to the above category, Vietnam was also mentioned 11 more times across various WTA award categories, out of nearly 300 awards presented.

Among these, Hoi An Memories Land won the award for World’s Leading Cultural and Tourist Entertainment Complex; Hoiana Resort & Golf was recognised as the World’s Leading Fully Integrated Resort; and InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort received the award for Leading Green Resort.

Phu Quoc was named in several national categories: Sunset Town was recognised as the World’s Leading Tourist Destination; Kiss Bridge was awarded World’s Leading Iconic Tourist Bridge. Phu Quoc was also named the island with the World’s Leading Natural Scenery, while JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort & Spa won the title of World’s Leading Luxury Wedding Resort.

In September, Vietnam was also recognised by the WTA at a regional event in three categories: Leading Destination, Leading Nature Destination, and Leading Heritage Destination in Asia 2024. The number of awards Vietnam received this time surpassed that of other countries in the region, accounting for more than 30 per cent of the total awards.

The WTA, established in 1993, is often referred to as the 'Oscars of the travel industry'. The awards are held annually to recognise outstanding destinations, tourism authorities, and high-quality service providers, covering categories such as airlines, hotels, resorts, travel companies, and tourist destinations. This year marks the 31st edition of the WTA.

The WTA awards are given in three levels: global (usually announced at the end of the year), regional, and national. Voting is conducted online, with participants including tourists, experts, and CEOs in the tourism and travel sectors. Notably, one vote from an expert counts as two standard votes.
