Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has asked for the establishment of a government task force led by Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha to supervise and speed up the construction of Long Thanh International Airport.

On January 29, the prime minister visited the construction site of Long Thanh International Airport to survey the project's progress. He asked the contractors to mobilise the resources to work days and nights to take advantage of the dry period and level the ground.

PM Chinh assigned Dong Nai People’s Committee to complete the land clearance for the first phase in the first quarter of 2023 and hand over the ground for the two access roads in the second quarter of this year.

He asked ministries, agencies, localities, and stakeholders of the project to take responsibility for the work under their watch and solve existing issues.

Covering a total area of more than 5,580 hectares, the airport – which is invested in by Airport Corporation of Vietnam – has a total investment capital sum of $14.6 billion and construction is divided into three phases.

The project was kicked off in 2021. In the first phase, a runway and one passenger terminal along with other supporting facilities will be built at a cost of $4.7 billion. This will be able to handle 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tonnes of cargo each year.

Once fully completed by 2050, the airport will be able to service 100 million passengers and five million tonnes of cargo annually.

Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) has issued a notification about cancellation of a package titled “Construction and Equipment Installation for the Passenger Terminal Building”, which was the largest bidding package for Long Thanh International Airport.

Construction kicks off at Tan Son Nhat International Airport T3

The construction of the third terminal at Tan Son Nhat International Airport is expected to be completed within 24 months and run pilot operations in late 2024.
