SCG designed each playground to be safe and educational

The playground is made of premium quality PE plastic resin from SCG’s Chemicals Business, designed to be safe and colourful to ignite children’s creativity. With this, SCG will continue to contribute to the holistic development of local children, creating a more appealing learning environment for students here.

SCG’s Sharing the Dream playground is the pioneering project in Vietnam, as it meets the increasing demand of communities for educational and safe play space for children. In both urban and rural areas, with the rising population and limited area and public investment, it is hard to find proper playgrounds where children can play safe and smart. Therefore, SCG’s playgrounds will be the first to introduce a totally fresh experience that enhances the learning quality for Long Son’s children.

“SCG commits to create better living for all communities where we operate. At Long Son commune – the home of SCG’s flagship project Southern Petrochemical Complex – the company has been working closely with local authorities on several community projects, including these playgrounds. Their goal is to build a recreational space that is safe and joyful for the little pupils of Long Son, to help them develop holistically by playing. We believe that these young seeds will grow into healthy citizens who are able to contribute to the future of Long Son in particular and Ba Ria-Vung Tau in general,” said Somchai Wangwattanapanich, senior vice president, Chemicals Business, SCG.

Before this event, the first two playgrounds handed over to Long Son 2 Primary School and Tuoi Tho Kindergarten have been warmly received by local students. Many of them love to go to school because of the playground. “Besides developing children’s motor skills, the playground encourages them to collaborate, to solve problems and build friendship, creating a friendly learning atmosphere for our school. Therefore, we really look forward to seeing more of our children benefit from the playground built by SCG and Long Son Petrochemicals Company for Long Son 1 school,” said Bui Van Minh, principal of Long Son 1 primary school.

This playground construction is part of SCG’s Sharing the Dream Playground project, having a total of three playgrounds in Long Son 2 Primary School, Tuoi Tho Kindergarten, and Long Son 1 Primary School so far. In this locality, SCG and LSP have also manifested its long-term commitment through various projects focusing on human development and community development.

In Long Son commune, LSP has been focusing on community projects, including the mobile clinic to provide free health checks for locals, the campaign to raise traffic safety awareness, and programmes to enhance the business skills of local SMEs and vocational training for local workers, charity to support the poor families, as well as scholarships and other activities for the local children.

At the provincial level, SCG and LSP have worked closely with local authorities on human development projects, including the SCG Sharing the Dream scholarship, the renovation of Ba Ria-Vung Tau School for Disabled Children, celebrating the international children’s day every year in this school, and the “Kick & Share by SCG” football clinic for local children. Most recently, SCG has become the official sponsor of the Ba Ria-Vung Tau football team, aiming to raise the province’s professional football standards.

Besides many impactful social programmes to improve people’s living quality, when Long Son Petrochemical Company starts operation, it will uplift the local economy, provide more job opportunities, and enhance the livelihood of the local community in many aspects, continuing to manifest SCG’s commitment to a better living for Vietnamese people.

SCG, one of the leading conglomerates in the ASEAN region, comprises of three core businesses, namely cement-building materials, chemicals, and packaging. With more than 200 companies under its umbrella and approximately 53,000 employees, SCG creates and distributes innovative products and services that respond to the current and future needs of consumers. SCG began its business operations in Vietnam in 1992 with trading business and gradually expanded investment in diversified businesses in the cement-building materials, chemicals, and packaging industries.

In the chemicals business, SCG is one of Thailand’s largest integrated petrochemical companies and a key industrial producer in Asia. In Vietnam, the available products of SCG’s Chemicals Business are downstream chemicals products such as PE&PP, XLPE, as well as PVC resin and compound.

Southern Petrochemical Complex is SCG’s flagship project in Vietnam, located in Long Son commune, Ba Ria-Vung Tau province with the total investment of approximately $5.4 billion. The project was officially kicked off in March 2018. Operated by Long Son Petrochemicals Company Limited (LSP), the project is deploying the first fully integrated, advanced petrochemicals complex reaching international environmental and safety standards. Also, LSP commits to bringing sustainable development to communities in Long Son in particular and the petrochemical industry in Vietnam in general. SCG will continue to grow sustainably hand-in-hand with local businesses, while bringing more job opportunities and economic growth for the region.
