Well known as the “war museum” of Vietnam, Quang Tri’s war and historical relics are densely distributed in the province. Such destinations as Vinh Moc tunnel and Vinh Linh tunnel village system, the banks of the Hien Luong-Ben Hai river, Truong Son martyr cemetery, Doc Mieu base, Lao Bao prison, Quang Tri ancient citadel, and others offer experiences that cannot be found anywhere else, attracting numerous international visitors.
Quang Tri is also renowned for its sea and island tourism hot spots with beautiful, pristine, lyrical beaches. In particular, Cua Tung beach in Vinh Linh district is known as the “Queen of beaches”.
Meanwhile, Cua Viet in Gio Linh district offers a long, pure and stunning beach with clear blue water and smooth, flat white sand. For island tours, Con Co island is a must-visit spot, with a rich nature of vegetables, diversified marine ecosystem, and wonderful coral reefs.
Regarding ecotourism, Quang Tri boasts beautiful landscapes of rivers, streams, lakes, mountains and forests, as well as diverse flora and fauna. Prominent are the Ru Linh primeval forest, Bac Huong Hoa nature reserve, Dakrong Nature Reserve, Tra Loc Tram forest, K’lu hot spring, Sa Mu Pass, and Chenh Venh waterfall.
Additionally, Quang Tri is a promising destination for cultural and spiritual tourism with a system of ancient relic in Gio Linh district. The area preserves unique archaeological and cultural and artistic values created by the Champa people. The province has a system of unique spiritual and religious cultural works such as Sac Tu Tinh Quang Ancestral Temple and Our Lady of La Vang Pilgrimage.
Furthermore, there is a wide range of national monuments, including General Secretary Le Duan’s Memorial House and Lord Nguyen’s Palace.
Currently, Quang Tri’s religious and revolutionary festivals have also become major cultural events for the community, attracting a large number of tourists. These include Sac Tu Tinh Quang Ancestral Temple Festival, La Vang palanquin ceremony, the River Unification festival, the Trans-Asia Bridge festival, Legendary Truong Son festival, and more. Moreover, the organisation of the For Peace festival on an international scale promises to bring the image of Quang Tri tourism widely to domestic and foreign tourists and the public.
Economic expert Tran Du Lich said, “With unique and unique tourism resources, plus being located in the middle of an area with dense landscapes and world cultural heritages such as Hue and Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, this will be an opportunity for Quang Tri to invest in developing attractive types of tourism, connecting with tours and tourist routes with other localities.”
Ha Sy Dong, Standing Vice Chairman of Quang Tri People’s Committee, said that the province is considered a locality with an important strategic location, as the tourism gateway of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.
“At the same time, Quang Tri has two international border gates, Lao Bao and La Lay, which are convenient for linking exchanges and cooperation in tourism development with provinces in the central coastal region, with ASEAN countries and the Greater Mekong Sub-region,” Dong said.
According to him, the province seeks to build and develop into an attractive tourist destination with unique historical and cultural characteristics for the central region, as an important nucleus within the East-West Economic Corridor.
