Construction of Quang Tri Airport is expected to start in early July. This 265-hectare project is located in Gio Linh district, with a total investment of nearly $246 million. Quang Tri is responsible for conducting site clearance for the initiative, which was announced at the end of last year.

This project is to be built under 4C airport standards, capable of developing and operating Code E aircraft, and meeting the needs of up to five million passengers per year and 25,500 tonnes of cargo annually.

Also undergoing construction in the locality is Quang Tri Industrial Park (IP), after thorough preparation. Funded by Quang Tri Development Joint Venture Co., Ltd. and located in Hai Lang district, the $87.5 million scheme started with the first phase in December 2023, covering 97.4ha.

During the groundbreaking ceremony, five businesses signed an MoU to lease land in the IP. Among them, Winzen Holding of Hong Kong and Join Success Wealth from Singapore plan to carry out garment and textile production in the IP, along with three Vietnamese enterprises participating in furniture production and motorcycle distribution.

Beginning to take off

My Thuy port area has also started construction after many years of implementing related procedures. This project’s investment policy was approved in 2019, with the goal of investing in construction and business of a specialised port area, serving industrial facilities in the province. It is combined with attracting transit goods to Laos and the northeastern region of Thailand on the East-West Economic Corridor, while ensuring the reception of ships with a tonnage of up to 100,000 tonnes.

My Thuy International Port Joint Venture is funding the facility, situated in Hai Lang district across 685ha, including 10 berths. The total capital stands at more than $600 million.

During preparation for implementation, the project encountered many difficulties related to investment procedures, overlapping plans, and site clearance work. Meanwhile, appraising the investor’s capacity has taken a long time.

Chairman of Quang Tri People’s Committee Vo Van Hung assessed that My Thuy Port area is a key motivating project of the province. Once completed, the project will have important significance in attracting investment, promoting and exploiting potentials and strengths.

Duong Viet Roan, general director of My Thuy International Port Joint Venture, committed that investors will focus all resources to speed up the project progress, ensuring that by the end of 2025, about as many as four berths will be put into operation.

On high hopes

Quang Tri is a locality with a strategic location on the north-south traffic route. With Quang Tri Airport being built, aside from the ongoing North-South Expressway project, in the near future Quang Tri will have the strongest connections with other regions across the country, thereby contributing to exploiting and promoting the province’s strengths.

Aligning with that, an important milestone for the development of Quang Tri was the approval at the end of 2023 of provincial planning for the decade, with a vision to 2050.

Chairman Hung said that the planning not only plays a crucial role in orienting spatial organisation, implementing effective mobilisation, allocation, and use factors and resources, it also creates a legal framework to orient and formulate development policies for all sectors and fields of the province in the next period.

According to this plan, the overall goal of Quang Tri is to lift the provincial development to stand in the group of well-performing provinces in the country, with a basic economic structure of an industrial-service province. Quang Tri is set to become one of the general economic centres of the north central and central coastal regions; a logistics and goods transshipment centre of Southeast Asia and transport corridors in the ASEAN region, and the Greater Mekong Subregion.

“To achieve the set goals, Quang Tri will mobilise and diversify resources to implement key transportation projects in the area, build synchronous transport infrastructure. Besides that, the province will also create an attractive living and working environment to attract domestic and foreign talents,” Hung said.

In particular, Quang Tri will focus on strongly improving the business investment environment in a bid to engage more investors to promote and exploit potential advantages into economic values.

At present, with many potential advantages, Quang Tri is a destination for large investors in energy, resort tourism, manufacturing, and processing, such as T&T Group, Scavi, Son Hai Group, Sepon Quang Tri, Tan Hoa Cau, and Camel.

Chairman Hung assessed that the business community and investors are an indispensable part of Quang Tri province, and the success of businesses is also that of the province.

“The province is always committed to providing all possible support for investors and enterprises. It stands ready to create all the conditions for investors to access resources, turn their ideas into reality, and to work with the province to realise the goals in the Quang Tri provincial planning for the period,” he emphasised.
