Quang Tri EZ aims for breakthroughs

With a total area of around 23,800 hectares, Southeast Quang Tri Economic Zone (EZ), established in 2015, had the goal of developing into an integrated, multi-sector EZ.

Quang Tri leaders expect local economic zone to boost the province’s development

It is an international trade centre, industrial centre for agro-forestry-fishery product processing, construction materials production, electricity production, and tourism; as well as dealing in urban development and other economic sectors.

In 2024, the EZ is now vibrant with a series of key projects being implemented. The most prominent is My Thuy port, with a total investment of up to $600 million. This is one of the driving projects that Quang Tri province has high expectations for promoting and exploiting the province’s potential and strengths.

In addition, the Hai Lang liquefied natural gas initiative involving T&T Group, Hanwha Energy Company, Korea Gas Corporation, and Korea South Power Corporation will cost $2.26 billion and is currently being supported by Quang Tri authorities to remove legal obstacles.

Southeast Quang Tri EZ has many other large projects that are being implemented, focusing on infrastructure, logistics, and energy. They include Quang Tri Airport construction, Trieu Phu Industrial Park, Hop Thinh wharf, Cua Viet General Port, Quang Tri Southeast Logistics and Logistics Service Center, and Hai Ha Petroleum Warehouse.

According to Dr. Tran Dinh Thien, a member of the National Financial and Monetary Policy Advisory Council, Southeast Quang Tri EZ has many advantages in attracting large investors thanks to its large land scale, which meets the needs of developing functional areas.

“The EZ has favourable traffic conditions in terms of road, rail, waterway, and air. It is convenient in connecting and connecting with national and international transportation network infrastructure,” Dr. Thien acknowledged.

Nguyen Duc Thien, deputy head of Quang Tri Economic Zones Management Board, said that the road transport system connecting it had been planned and invested synchronously, and met the development needs of the area.

“In the near future, many new routes such as the North-South highway, coastal roads connecting the East-West corridor, Cam Lo-Lao Bao Highway, expanded National Highway 15D, and others will be completed. Finalised investment and construction will also create many new breakthroughs for exploiting the zone’s strengths and potential,” Duc Thien said.

According to provincial planning for this decade, Southeast Quang Tri EZ plays a critical role in the development of the locality. The zone aims to become an integrated, multi-sector economic zone, an important development pole of the central region, and an international trade centre. Research will be carried out with a view to expanding the development space associated with favourable areas for development along the north-south expressway corridor and National Highway 15D.

Chairman of Quang Tri People’s Committee Vo Van Hung said that Southeast Quang Tri EZ was meeting all the conditions to form and develop a multi-functional zone, creating a driving force to boost the local economy.

“For it to develop sustainably, Quang Tri province needs more attention from ministries, central agencies, and the government to complete the functional structure and synchronise technical and social infrastructure. Association with key sub-sectors and key products of high quality and competitiveness in industry, services, tourism and agriculture, will create strength for long-term development” Hung said.

Resources being sped up for Quang Tri development With its great potential, the central province of Quang Tri is witnessing the construction of many projects across various sectors, helping to drive the locality’s economy forward.

Southeast Quang Tri Economic Zone has 19 projects in operation, worth around $48.5 million. In addition, there are more than 30 projects which have been approved and are implementing procedures to invest in construction projects, at a total of approximately $6.35 billion.
