Miss Charm 2023 is the first beauty contest organised by Vietnam using blockchain technology for the voting process through an online form and non-fungible tokens (NFT).

Within the framework of the launch press conference for Miss Charm 2023, Huy Nguyen, vice president of the Vietnam Blockchain Association spoke with the CEO of Elite Vietnam Lan Khue and founder of Web3 SoCol platform and CMO Konomi Network Irene Zhao to discuss the potential of blockchain, NFT, and the metaverse in beauty contests.

Nguyen defines the difference between Web2 and Web3 as the fact that users on Web3 can claim ownership of the content they post. Web2 – the internet we now use – allows us to put our own images on social networks, but there is no way to verify the copyright and it is very easy for others to use the images without permission.

However, the next generation – Web3 – uses the application of blockchain technology to solve this problem. For example, to prove titles from beauty contests, entrants can NFTise their images before publishing them on social networks.

Nguyen said, “NFT is very important for Gen Z as individuals value privacy and ownership in the digital age. They need a technology that guarantees authenticity and security, which is why blockchain is so popular."

According to Irene Zhao, founder of the Web3 platform SoCol, building a successful NFT collection is not only based on pure technology but also on human factors, including building a community that understands Web3 culture. This is something that the Miss Charm Organising Committee is aiming for.

The contest leverages NFTs, which are tokens or data files that are stored and authenticated on the blockchain, and are fully traceable.

Around the world, Miss Universe Thailand 2021 is another competition to launch NFT collections in conjunction with Bitkub Blockchain Technology to target collectors and fans.

According to Miss Charm's organiser, each beauty contest is a long journey with efforts from many individuals and groups from different countries, so it would be a pity if those efforts were not recorded and kept in a complete form while ensuring transparency and longevity.

NFTs can record the journey of the contest, spreading Vietnamese spiritual and cultural values to the world through the power of technology.

The organisers said they would bring a Metaverse experience combined with virtual reality to the event stage to create a digital space for the audience and contestants to interact.

Contestants' image collections and videos capturing beautiful moments throughout the contest will be copyrighted and saved on the blockchain.

Launched in 2019, Miss Charm is the first international beauty contest owned by Vietnamese people. After two delays due to the pandemic, the contest has officially restarted. In this comeback, blockchain technology has been included in the voting process with the release of the NFT collections to the contestants.
