Nha Trang is already popular with tourists, but could become even more so with more green areas

This year has been a busy one for Khanh Hoa authorities, who are involved in various plans to make the province and popular tourist destination Nha Trang more enticing for visitors.

Along with the Phu Dong Park project covering over 21,700 square metres, in which the province will mobilise resources to build a park for the community, another venture located next to Pham Van Dong street in Nha Trang is set to become a public park. The highlight has been sketched out as a glass-bottom bridge across the Hon Do River.

“Public parks for fun and relaxation are an increasing need not only of people but also of tourists, especially in a coastal city like Nha Trang,” said resident Hoang Thi Linh.

Provincial leaders have been interested in utilising more land to invest in parks. For example, Nha Trang People’s Committee is consulting residents over a project to adjust subdivision planning of an urban park area and new administrative centre of Khanh Hoa. The subdivision planning project has a scale of around 705 hectares, belonging to Vinh Thai and Phuoc Dong communes.

The current master plan is adjusted in the direction of organising a modern, bustling urban centre with a clear identity and a public square along the coast, as well as a theme park.

Planning involves allocating about 10ha of land reserved for construction of administrative offices and 4ha of land for urban public works to relocate some administrative agencies from the existing central area when there is a need. There are also plans to create a mangrove ecological park and a public square near the river. Also, open parks with various services would be built.

Orientation of the overall planning of the coastal area east of Tran Phu-Pham Van Dong streets in Nha Trang (including Evason Ana Mandara Nha Trang Resort) was concluded by the Standing Committee of Khanh Hoa Party Committee in August 2022.

The committee has assigned the Nha Trang counterpart to set up a separate urban design project for the aforementioned area as a basis to consider some works/projects in the city.

According to the consulting agency involved in the plans, the area to the east of the streets from An Vien Bridge to the end of Pham Van Dong will become a major tourist and entertainment centre.

The consultant said the design ideas are diverse in identity and involve the natural landscape. Planned highlights include a 18-km cycling path and an exhibition complex.

Nguyen Hai Ninh, Secretary of Khanh Hoa Party Committee, said that if the designs come to fruition, the Nha Trang coastline will be more valuable, classier, and attract more visitors.

Ninh asked Nha Trang People’s Committee to support the consulting unit to soon finalise the design time to form a park strip for residents and visitors.

“The goal is a park for everyone, but still with suitable accompanying services. Without such services, it is very wasteful and not feasible,” Ninh said.

Earlier this year, Khanh Hoa Department of Tourism proposed the establishment of a cultural, food, and tourism street. The People’s Committee will direct specialised agencies to develop the project and consider retaining some existing works on the land of Evason Ana Mandara Nha Trang Resort to arrange public service combined with tourism, in order to save construction costs and bring common benefits to the community.
