Hanoi's CPI in H1 rises by over 5 per cent

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in Hanoi increased by over 5 per cent in the first six months of the year compared to the same period in 2023.

Education in particular has seen a significant rise of over 31.5 per cent due to public schools in Hanoi implementing tuition fees according to Resolution No.03/2023/NQ-HDND. Additionally, some private and semi-private schools are also increasing tuition fees for the 2023-2024 academic year.

The housing category, which includes electricity, water, fuel, and construction materials, saw an increase of a little over 6 per cent with medicine and healthcare services witnessing a 3.66 per cent rise.

Food and dining services saw a 3.3 per cent bump, while beverages and tobacco experienced a more than 2.6 per cent increase.

Transportation costs increased by almost 2.7 per cent, while the clothing and footwear rose by almost 2 per cent.

The cultural, entertainment, and tourism category, along with the household equipment and supplies category, both saw increases of under 1 per cent.

The other goods and services category has witnessed a significant increase of 7.04 per cent, primarily driven by the rise in prices of jewellery and healthcare insurance services. Meanwhile, the postal and telecommunications category has decreased by 1.4 per cent.

In June, the CPI in the city increased by 0.07 per cent compared to the previous month, rose by 0.66 per cent compared to December 2023, and increased by 5.39 per cent compared to the same period in 2023.

During the same period, the gold price index in Hanoi decreased by 0.54 per cent compared to the previous month, increased by 21.53 per cent compared to December 2023, and rose by 33.71 per cent compared to the same period. The USD exchange rate index increased by 0.03 per cent compared to the previous month, rose by 4.22 per cent compared to December 2023, and increased by 7.58 per cent compared to the same period last year.

During the first six months, the average gold price index increased by 26.3 per cent, while the average USD exchange rate index rose by 5.5 per cent, compared to the average for the first 6 months of 2023.

According to the Statistical Office, Hanoi’s total retail sales of goods and consumer services revenue for the second quarter of 2024 reached $8.7 billion, showing an increase of 4.6 per cent compared to the previous quarter and a growth of 12.2 per cent compared to the same period in 2023.

During the first six months of the year, the total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue reached $17 billion, showing a growth of 10.7 per cent compared to the same period in 2023.

Of which, the retail sales revenue of goods reached $10.87 billion, accounting for 63.9 per cent of the total, and showing a growth of 10.8 per cent compared to the same period last year.
