The province's economy has seen strong developments in recent times. The scale of the economy calculated at current prices in 2023 has reached $5.18 billion, ranking fourth out of 14 localities in the north central and central coastal regions, and ranking 21st out of 63 localities nationwide.
The per capita regional GDP reached $4,200 in 2023, ranking second out of 14 localities in the North Central and Central Coast regions, and ranking 13th out of 63 localities nationwide.

For three consecutive years, Quang Ngai has excelled at budget revenue contribution. Total budget revenue during the period comes to $3.67 billion, up $717 million compared to the estimate assigned by Quang Ngai People's Council and $1.05 billion more than the estimate assigned by the central government.
In 2022, Quang Ngai made it into the list of top 10 localities with the highest domestic revenue in the country.
Dang Van Minh, Chairman of Quang Ngai People's Committee, said that policy decisions reflected the strategic vision of the central government and many generations of provincial leaders, businesses, and individuals.
"The planning, construction, and development of Dung Quat Economic Zone, Dung Quat Oil Refinery, and VSIP Quang Ngai Industrial, Urban and Service Complex have been the very foundations and premises for the province to develop as strongly as it does today," Minh said.
According to Minh, Quang Ngai’s provincial planning demonstrates new thinking and vision that is aligned with the country's development orientation.
In light of the fresh scheme, Quang Ngai chooses to harmoniously develop the economic, social, and environmental pillars, while investing in human resource development and training as a foundation to ensure labour quality for long-term and sustainable development needs.
By 2030, the province strives to be a well-developed locality with an average income per capita at least equal to the average income of the country, focusing on developing the green, digital, and circular economies. It will gradually form a green industry and high-tech industry at industrial parks and concentrated industrial clusters; build high-quality services with an emphasis on tourism; perfect infrastructure; develop green cities and smart cities; and firmly protect national defence, security, and sovereignty.
