FPT Information System receives first US patent

The FPT IS invention is classified as a 'utility patent', and is one of the few inventions to be reviewed and had the patent issued seven months earlier than the regulation time. The invention has now been applied in two automation products, akaBot and UBot.

“According to our surveys, on average, each small and medium-sized enterprise in Vietnam often has to process from between hundreds to more than 1,000 documents every day," said Bui Dinh Giap, CEO of akaBot.

"The amount of important documents such as contracts, invoices, legal and logistical documents, among others, that need to be processed are increasing day by day, resulting in an increase in the amount of time and effort spent on management processes. Additionally, manual data split and classification processes can easily cause errors, inconsistencies, and affect the reliability of stored documents,”

The US patent for akaBot

To solve this problem, experts from akaBot applied machine learning to train computers to automatically deploy and process various input documents such as sales and tax invoices, packing lists, delivery notes, and contracts, to separate and classify one or more sub-documents.

This technology has been applied in akaBot Vision and UBot Invoice since 2021 for over 1,500 customers, helping to intelligently process up to 300–400 documents a day.

Moreover, the invention helps decrease data split and classification time from 15 minutes to 5–10 seconds per document set. These are the major factors that helped FPT IS’s invention achieve the status of 'useful' from the USPTO.

UBot is another automation solution using virtual robot assistants made by FPT IS and helps firms process boring and repetitive business operations.
