Chinese group proposes to build Tu Lien Bridge and Hanoi Metro

Jiehe proposed the Vietnamese government provide more preferential policies for businesses that build and invest in transportation infrastructure, as well as look for innovative cooperation models.

PM Chinh welcomed the proposal of Pacific Construction Group on cooperation and implementing the construction of Tu Lien Bridge and the Hanoi urban railway's section between Van Cao and Hoa Lac.

"The group should cooperate with Hanoi authorities and the Ministry of Transport to study and build this urban railway, based on the principle of harmonious benefits, shared risks," the PM said.

According to the previous general planning of the capital, Hanoi will have 10 metro lines, including nine main lines and one connecting satellite cities, with a total length of 397km. However, to date, the city has only completed 13km of line between Cat Linh and Ha Dong and is about to complete a 12.5km of section between Nhon and Hanoi Station.

Hanoi aims to build 96.8km of urban railways by 2030 and complete a 550km network by 2045. Urban railways will handle 7-8 per cent of public passenger traffic and will facilitate around 2.5 million trips every day.

Pacific Construction Group is among the world's top private-owned engineering and construction developers. It reported nearly $79.5 billion in revenue and approximately $5.2 billion in profit last year.

The PM also wants Pacific Construction Group and other Vietnamese localities, especially the northern border provinces, to cooperate in infrastructure development.

On the same day, the PM received Yan Shengjun, chairman of China Tianying Inc., a multinational corporation operating in low-carbon new energy, smart environmental services, and recycling. He welcomed Tianying Inc.'s plan for expanding its green energy investment and businesses in Vietnam

"Vietnam is a country with potential for developing renewable energy such as wind and solar power and has large energy needs for socioeconomic development," he said. "Tianying Inc. should cooperate and support Vietnam in raising ideas and new projects on waste treatment, renewable energy, and hydrogen."

PM Chinh left Beijing to return to Hanoi later that day, after previously attending the World Economic Forum conference in Dalian City in China's Liaoning province.
