The project aims to green the shrimp ponds, reduce saltwater intrusion, block tropical storms, and contribute to climate regulation. The move will also benefit soil salinity management, create shelter and food for aquatic species, improve the ecosystem, and limit the impacts of climate change.
The first phase of the project includes the planting of 800 mangrove trees in the commercial shrimp farm area. During the subsequent phases, efforts will be made to restore biodiversity and protect it for the future, moving the nation towards more sustainable shrimp production and consumption.
Nichirei Fresh Inc. is a well-known Japanese company that imports seafood from foreign countries. This project forms a part of Nichirei's sustainability policy by adhering to circular economy principles in its supply chain.
The target is to meet C.P Group's goal of practising the core value of Three Benefits Towards Sustainability, contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Nichirei Fresh Inc. started the project in 2006 in Indonesia, then expanded it to Thailand and Vietnam. By 2021, 380,000 trees had been planted, and an additional 350,000 are planned by 2030.
The eternal gratitude to Uncle Ho tree-planting campaign and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's For a Green Vietnam initiative to plant one billion trees have seen great progress in Dong Thap and Dong Nai provinces.
In response to the PM's call to action, C.P. Vietnam has implemented the CPV - Journey for a Green Vietnam project for 2021-2025. The goal is to plant 1.5 million trees across the country, with a budget of more than $1 million.
The project began by planting 500,000 trees at the company's factories and farms, before expanding to the target of 1 million more throughout many provinces and cities in Vietnam.
