Tanaka Kosei, back office executive director at AEON Vietnam said, “The AEON Ekiden Run is not only a sporting activity but also represents teamwork and the connection between people. This is the main message that AEON Vietnam wants to send through this activity."
"We wish to promote a healthy and happy lifestyle, as well as a spirit of cohesion in the local community and between Vietnam and Japan in general. This is also a sincere thank you to the local community. We could not have achieved what we have today without everyone's trust and support over the past 10 years," added Kosei.
The AEON Ekiden event consists of two main activities. A relay race in the morning and the Vietnam-Japan Cultural Festival in the afternoon.
AEON Ekiden promotes solidarity and healthy lifestyles
Ekiden is the name of a form of relay running in Japanese culture, expressing the spirit of solidarity and overcoming challenges for a common goal. At the relay point, the members will pass each other a Tasuki ribbon – a symbol of perseverance and solidarity. The image of the Tasuki symbolises the spirit of bringing people together in the local community.
The AEON Ekiden 2022 also aims to encourage physical training through sports while educating the younger generation on sustainable values such as team spirit and a healthy lifestyle and enriching the experience of the local community through cultural activities in Vietnam and Japan.
The kick-off event in the series attracted thousands of attendees.
In Group A, each team consists of five members and at least one child (8-16 years old) and Group B is for teams over 16 years old. Each member completes 1.3km per person to conquer the 6.5km races.
