Following collaborative efforts by the entire political system, the 500kV circuit 3 transmission line stretching from Quang Trach in Quang Binh province to Pho Noi in Hung Yen province was inaugurated on August 29.

The inauguration of the line with a total length of approximately 519km marks the 79^th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2).

The transmission line was put into operation on late August 27. Its construction began on January 18, 2024. The project traverses nine provinces and cost around VND22 trillion ($916 million).

The project will help reduce the load on existing 500kV transmission lines, especially when transmission capacity is high on the north-central interface (at times when Northern hydropower plants generate low output).

The transmission line will also help increase stability reserves on the north-central interface, in combination with the 500kV Quang Trach - Quynh Luu - Thanh Hoa - Nam Dinh I TPP - Pho Noi transmission lines. This will contribute to supplementing power from sources in the northern central region to the load centre in the northern region.

It also raises the transmission capacity from the current 2,200MW to approximately 5,000MW, equivalent to over 20 billion kWh of commercial electricity supplied to the north annually.

The project will contribute to ensuring electricity supply for the northern region this year and the following years.

Earlier, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh called for the completion of the line on schedule. Ministries, agencies, localities, and units redoubled their efforts, strengthened unity, and boosted their determination and effectiveness to complete the project with the highest sense of responsibility.

PM mandates transmission line to be operational by September 2

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has set a firm deadline to complete the 500 kV transmission line (Phase 3) by September 2, with an inauguration scheduled for National Day this year.
