As Lunar New Year 2024 approaches, while a grey shadow casting over the construction-real estate industry elsewhere that workers are demanding their due pay, Coteccons construction sites present a different scene. Builders are excited and immersed in a unique business, welcoming the Lunar New Year on their construction sites.
At 7 a.m, Hoc from Van Giang (Hung Yen), meticulously records his personal information on a health check sheet at the construction site where he toils daily, never contemplating a personal visit from the doctor. Today, his whole family received a free health checkup session – his wife and two children standing beside him as they awaited their turn. With a monthly salary of approximately $500, the Coteccons construction site has been the means to sustain Hoc’s entire family and a small house in his hometown.
Hoc’s little family is just one of many families working together at Coteccons construction sites nationwide, forming a close-knit community. Even large families from the same lineage or hometown, such as Lang Son and Phu Tho, actively bring their relatives to work with them in most of the construction sites where Coteccons is the contractor.
To them, the sites provide them with jobs, fulfilment and happiness, as well as full salaries to sustain their dreams and those of their children.“I’ve been away from my family, working to ensure my children receive the education they do today. That dream still propels me forward,” confided a construction worker after decades in the profession.
These unsung workers not only nurture dreams for their families but also silently contribute to building the symbolic works of the country.
In fact, when people mention urban areas and billion-dollar projects, the focus often rests solely on the reputation of investors and contractors. At Coteccons, this perspective is valid but incomplete. During the announcement of the Building Tet 2024 programme, Bolat Duisenov, chairman of the Board of Directors of Coteccons, consistently emphasised gratitude to the workers forces – the group that is “the infrastructure” in the construction chain.
“Operating for 20 years, we’re proud to be a top company in the industry. We aim to deliver a message that inspires our industry colleagues to share more love and attention with this vulnerable group. We won’t mention about the money or the gifts we spend on the programme, so as to be noticed. We just want to acknowledge and appreciate our workers," Duisenov emphasised.
While blue-collar workers strive to build robust and safe projects while ensuring progress, the Coteccons team consistently emphasises building a safe and healthy working environment for them. This explained why every constructions site of this contractor placed large signs at the entrance and walkways of each construction site, convey the message, “Your life and health are invaluable.” Modern construction technologies are continuously updated to reduce heavy and hazardous work.
Nam, a safety officer at the Sky Forest construction site in the Ecopark Hung Yen urban area said, “I am responsible for managing procedures and documents in line with Coteccons’ requirements for workers – particularly regarding safety issues – before commencing any work. Construction workers undergo a safety training session, commonly referred to as the first-hour toolbox, before starting their tasks. We conduct periodic re-instruction sessions for workers every month,” attesting to Coteccons’ commitment to worker wellbeing. The gifts and activities provided by Coteccons during the Building Tet programme serve as a significant source of motivation for the team and reflect the company’s exceptional kindness. Having worked on projects in various locations, I can say that Coteccons consistently prioritises the wellbeing of its workforce.”
Beyond Lunar New Year gifts, Coteccons consistently stands alongside its workers and demonstrates gratitude and kindness throughout the year via various activities, including cooling-off solutions during the summer, warm clothes during winter, and food supply supports.
“We understand that behind every worker is a generation, a family, and countless dreams. Keeping each worker safe and happy is our way of supporting and building dreams for tens of thousands of small families across the country,” Coteccons kindly delivered the message.
