SCG builds outdoor community gym in Quang Binh

Aligned with the government’s direction that each province has a public playground to develop a healthy lifestyle amongst the communities, the project once again demonstrates SCG’s brand promise “Passion for Better Living” for each community where it operates.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has stressed the importance of health and wellness to everybody in society. It is acknowledged and guided by the government for each community to improve its immunity through the practice of sports and outdoor activities. SCG is therefore delighted to join hands with the Youth Union and the local communities of Quang Binh province to develop the SCG Outdoor Gym model, leveraging SCG’s expertise in cement-building materials and the passion of local people,” said Varongsit Marrat, deputy general director, SCG Cement Building Materials Vietnam Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of SCG, at the recent opening ceremony.

“Despite the impact of the pandemic and the most recent storms that hit Quang Binh province heavily, the local people and SCG staff have joined hands to complete the project on time. This venue is expected to become a shared ground for the whole community, regardless of age or gender to practice sports and exercises together, aiming toward a total wellness for all. We hope that this model will soon be replicated in other communities in the near future.”

Built in the yard of Nam Ly Ward Cultural House, SCG Outdoor Gym model is a combination of multi-purpose and specific-purpose areas, including a running track, a kids' playground, a volleyball area, badminton yard, and a gym area with the equipment for muscle strengthening, as well as a relaxing area beautifully set up with SCG’s aesthetic materials.

Each area is designed suitably for different age groups, from the junior kids to teenagers and the elderly, bringing a modern outdoor space to encourage local people to actively doing more outdoor exercises. Particularly, the model has applied a selection of high-quality materials from SCG Cement-Building Materials, including SCG Super Cement, Song Gianh Cement, SCG Smartwoods, and COTTO, adding durability and functionality to the project.

During the past pandemic and the massive floods hit to Quang Binh, the company has contributed significantly to help our people overcome the hardship. Today, once again, SCG is supporting us to build this modern outdoor gym – a project to sustainably uplift the physical and mental health of the local people. On behalf of the locals, we highly appreciate what SCG has contributed and look forward to more cooperation with SCG in the future.”

Early this year, SCG Cement Building Materials Co., Ltd. has sponsored 400 tonnes of cement for the Youth Union in Quang Binh to build 45 playgrounds across the province. Amongst which, the SCG Outdoor Gym model in Nam Ly ward is the first gym concept that SCG has picked to develop at the ward’s cultural house. The design had been released to the residential community for feedback, and the construction was carried out by local volunteers.

As a responsible corporation in Vietnam, in the context of the historical floods in Central Vietnam last year, SCG has quickly launched a community support programme named “Actions for the Beloved Central'', supporting more than VND4 billion ($173,900) and mobilising resources from all of its subsidiaries and employees to help affected communities to overcome this epic challenge.

Besides, the company has also donated more than VND4 billion (173,900), released a Mobile Positive Pressure Chamber to protect medical workforce in the prevention of the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. Along with this support, SCG has been supporting cement materials to renovate infrastructure for social wellness, renovate kindergartens, and donated ambulance stretchers for Quang Binh province, among others.
