Quang Tri People’s Committee on March 28 convened a meeting with relevant departments, agencies, and investors to resolve obstacles in the implementation of the province’s airport project—Vietnam’s second airport developed under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.

According to the Quang Tri Investment and Construction Project Management Board, Gio Linh district has completed land clearance for 239.4 hectares out of the total 265.3ha required for the project, with efforts ongoing to clear the remaining 26ha.

The local authorities have already handed over the first phase of cleared land—covering 140.56ha—enabling the investor to begin work on the apron. Documentation for the second phase, which spans 98.9ha, has been submitted and is currently awaiting approval.

To ensure flight safety, the relocation of a 110 kV power transmission line and two telecommunications towers is necessary. The project management board has proposed two options: either the investor undertakes the relocation directly—managing compensation, support, and resettlement in coordination with Gio Linh district—or a state agency is appointed as the investor of a separate initiative to carry out the task.

For water supply, the board worked with Quang Tri Clean Water JSC and the investor to survey and agree on a connection point at Quan Ngang Industrial Zone. Meanwhile, Quang Tri Power Company has identified a power connection point via the 22 kV feeder at the 110 kV Quan Ngang substation.

Le Duc Tien, Vice Chairman of Quang Tri People’s Committee, urged acceleration of land clearance and encouraged affected households to accept temporary resettlement to facilitate timely handover for construction. He also requested the investor to expedite the completion of documentation for the use of surface soil layers, submit it to the competent authority for approval, and proactively implement the relocation of technical infrastructure in line with regulations.

The Quang Tri Airport project, led by the T&T Group–CIENCO 4 consortium, broke ground in July 2024. It is the second airport in Vietnam to follow the PPP model, after Van Don International Airport. The project has a planned implementation period of 50 years, including a 24-month construction phase. Operations are expected to begin in July 2026.
