In realising the goal of becoming a top tourism hub connecting with the surrounding area and beyond, Quang Ninh is promoting investment in modern infrastructure, focusing on developing quality and diverse products and tourism models.

With aspirations for sustainable development, the province has promoted the mobilisation of socialised resources to develop its infrastructure system.

Quang Ninh is the gateway to world integration of the Northern Key Economic Zone, a node in the “Two Corridors, One Belt” cooperation zone between Vietnam and China, and the expanded Gulf of Tonkin inter-regional cooperation between much of Southeast Asia and China.

Currently, the province has a complete inter-regional and international transportation system including roads, seaways and airways. In addition to possessing the longest and most modern highway in the country, the province also has two international passenger ports and one modern international airport. The transportation system contributes to promoting the province’s geopolitical advantages in the region, increasing regional connectivity and opening the door to tourists from all over the world.

World-class resorts have opened, such as the Tuan Chau International Tourism Resort and Golf Course, Accor Hotels’ MGallery Legacy Yen Tu, Vinpearl Resort, and Spa Halong, and many others, attracting international visitors and especially high-end tourists.

When talking about the region, it is impossible not to mention Halong Bay – the province’s key destination for welcoming international visitors. It was named by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage in both 1994 and 2000. And in September, the Halong Bay-Cat Ba Archipelago was recognised by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage.

The number of tourists, especially international visitors to the province, has seen improvements over the years. From 3.5 million in 2016, the number of international visitors increased up to about 6.5 million in 2022.

In addition, a leader of Quang Ninh Department of Tourism said that in the first nine months of 2023, the province’s tourism recorded an impressive 13 million visitors, including nearly one million international visitors, an increase 41.7 per cent over the same period last year.

The province’s total tourism revenue reached over $1 billion, an increase of 34.8 per cent over the same period last year, mainly from the markets of China, South Korea, the United States, India, and some EU nations.

Quang Ninh has set a target of welcoming 15 million visitors, including two million international visitors, and revenue from tourism is estimated to reach $1.37 billion this year.

The province’s infrastructure is good with about 43,000 rooms, belonging to 2,200 accommodation facilities, including 15 5-star hotels; 154 cruises, and thousands of different road transport vehicles.

In 2023, the province put 38 new tourism products into operation to create richness and diversity for tourists. Among them, Halong city leads with eight new tourism offerings. Some products have been experimented in previous years, such as “Night Cruise Street,” sports and entertainment tourism activities, and sailing and music on Halong Bay.

According to the master plan on Quang Ninh tourism development to 2020 with a vision to 2030, the province will build Van Don to become one of the province’s four key tourism centres, focus development efforts on Bai Tu Long Bay, and link tourism development between there and Halong Bay.

In addition, the province has also closely coordinated with Hai Duong and Bac Giang to submit the dossier of the Yen Tu, Vinh Nghiem, Con Son, Kiep Bac relic and landscape complex to UNESCO for recognition as a world heritage. With this effort, the province hopes for a second World Heritage site, opening a new international tourism centre right next to Halong Bay.

Quang Ninh is striving for tourism truly develop into a key and sustainable economic sector, reaffirming its role as a tourism centre connecting regional and international areas, and a top tourism focus of the country.

From 2025 to 2030, the province strives to welcome at least 25 million visitors, including at least 8.5 million international visitors. The average growth rate of tourism will reach about 10 per cent per year, rising to 15 per cent by 2030.
