Khanh Hoa attracts tourists through large-scale events

By hosting large-scale international events, the central province of Khanh Hoa has attracted millions of domestic and international tourists in the first eight months of the year, solidifying its place on Vietnam's tourism map.

According to Khanh Hoa Department of Tourism, in the first eight months of 2024, tourist accommodation there welcomed more than eight million visitors, a 61 per cent on-year increase. Specifically, domestic visitors surpassed 4.8 million, up around 29 per cent, while international visitors exceeded 3.2 million, with that number growing by a considerable 260 per cent since the previous year, with total tourism revenue estimated at $1.58 billion, a 65 per cent increase approximately.

August alone saw over 1.3 million visitors, a 33 per cent increase on the same period last year. This included approximately 416,000 international visitors and more than 915,000 domestic tourists. Total tourism revenue reached an estimated $253 million.

According to Nguyen Thi Le Thanh, director of Khanh Hoa Department of Tourism, efforts towards tourism promotion, stimulus activities, and organising high-profile events have led to strong growth in the sector since the start of the year.

Specifically, the Nha Trang International Bay of Lights Festival, which premiered in Nha Trang-Khanh Hoa on July 13 at 2/4 Square and August 3 at Festival Square, Vinpearl Harbour, Hon Tre Island.

"The Nha Trang International Bay of Lights Festival set two Guinness World Records: the largest light show depicting world wonders and the largest light display of the Vietnamese cultural symbol - the Lac bird. These achievements raised the number of Guinness World Records set in Vietnam from 15 to 17 in the past 20 years," Thanh said.

Events such as the 370th anniversary of Khanh Hoa's establishment and development, Nha Trang-Khanh Hoa Sea Festival last year, the Eight Wonders Concert at Vinpearl Nha Trang, and recently the Nha Trang Sea Tourism Festival, as well as the Bay of Lights Festival, have attracted numerous visitors.

"Through organising major events, the image of Nha Trang-Khanh Hoa has spread to people and tourists across the country and internationally. This has helped affirm the brand and position Nha Trang-Khanh Hoa as a destination in the minds of tourists. The recent strong growth in Khanh Hoa's tourism has been significantly contributed to by innovations in promotion and marketing," Thanh said.

To maintain the tourism brand, Nguyen Tan Tuan, Chairman of Khanh Hoa People's Committee, suggested collaboration with consultants to focus on developing new attractions that match new trends and innovations to draw in domestic and international audiences.

"The province is currently encouraging local authorities and businesses to further develop tourism products, nighttime entertainment, and ecotourism to meet the needs of tourists," Thanh said.
