Dong Thap bolsters resolutions to Further fuel urban tourism

The city of Sa Dec has directed the construction of roads to support local tourism development. Priority is given to those leading to well-known attractions such as Huynh Thuy Le’s house, Kien An Cung Pagoda, and Sa Dec flower village.

Besides this, Sa Dec Park is also set to undergo an embellishment of surrounding scenery and the roads along Tien river, Le Loi street, Nguyen Hue street, and Sa Dec to create highlights for river tourism.

Following the city planning, Sa Dec city is calling for businesses to invest in building a green park with food stalls and souvenirs around the area of Sa Dec river, in front of Huynh Thuy Le’s ancient house.

Until now, the city is home to 22 hotels, 35 motels, 44 guest houses, and two homestay establishments, of which there have been 10 hotels graded with 1- to 3-star standards and can accommodate about 875 tourists per day.

In Thap Muoi district, the People’s Committee and its affiliated units have completed the planning for the infrastructure upgrades of Dong Sen’s tourist area to submit to the provincial authority for consideration and approval.

Some of the attractions in the district are ready for the upgrade, including the Dong Sen Thap Muoi tourist area, Kenh Ba Thap road, the Go Thap residential cluster, and Vo Van Kiet street.

Thap Muoi district has collaborated with provincial departments and branches to restore and embellish historical relics such as the liberation victory monument in Thanh My, the remembrance monument in Loi An, the Ba Chua Xu temple, and the Doc Binh Kieu temple.

At the same time, Thap Muoi continues to step up promotions for tourism activities, widely disseminating the values and meanings of local annual traditional festivals to preserve its distinctive cultural identity and attract tourists with vibrant cultural, artistic, and sport activities.

Furthermore, the district also creates favourable opportunities for tourism and service businesses to help them discover the local potential. No less bustling than its neighbours, Cao Lanh city is bringing many projects to life. The city has kicked off the expansion and refurbishment of Pham Huu Lau street, which is expected to be finished in 18 months with an investment capital totalling VND83 billion ($3.6 million). Along with this, a drainage system worth VND5.2 billion ($225,000) in My Phu ward has been launched, contributing to solving the problem of flooding in the area on days with heavy rain.

The city also aims to exploit its strengths as a regional distribution centre to rapidly develop trading activities alongside services and tourism. Particularly, enhancing high-quality services is very much prioritised, next to bolstering not only leisure tourism but also community-based, experiential, and eco-tourism, bringing the “capital land of the lotus” to the wider world.

Phan Van Thuong, secretary of Cao Lanh Party Committee, said that with aspirations to fuel the city, the critical factor lies in specific projects and financial solutions, along with flexible forms of attracting investment and seizing opportunities.

Step by step, Cao Lanh will be forming specialised service centres and industrial clusters to attract start-ups and small- and medium-sized enterprises, in combination with the relocation of production establishments in the area, renovating local urbanisation towards sustainability.
