The project is poised to bring a transformation to the local plastic film industry. The factory will not just be manufacturing biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) film, but will also embark on a plan for the production of biaxially oriented polyethylene terephthalate (BOPET) film over the coming phase.
This pioneering step aligns perfectly with the pressing need to meet the market's currently import-reliant demand for BOPET film. In addition, the A.J. Plast (Vietnam) factory exemplifies SCG's steadfast commitment to continuous investment in Vietnam, aiming to meet the rising consumer demand for high-value-added products by providing essential materials to the flexible packaging industry.
Prasan Onwong, general director of A.J. Plast (Vietnam) said, "The packaging sector in Vietnam boasts considerable growth prospects, particularly in the domain of flexible packaging, which predominantly utilises BOPP and BOPET films."
"As a pioneer in BOPP and BOPET production for over three decades, our operations are not only efficient but also environmentally friendly. We prioritise the extensive use of recycled raw materials, ensuring that we deliver top-tier products of world-class quality. This steadfast commitment to both industrial expansion and ecological responsibility underscores our dedication to advancing Vietnam's flexible packaging industry in its quest for sustainable development," added Onwong.
The A.J. Plast (Vietnam) factory, spanning an expansive 70,000 square metres, is strategically situated in the province of Binh Duong, regarded as a prominent growth hub in the southern region of Vietnam that already houses numerous other factories under the SCG conglomerate's operations.
The factory's core products include BOPP and the upcoming BOPET, both serving as essential raw materials for the flexible packaging industry in a wide range of applications such as household products, agriculture, and pet food. In terms of production capacity, the initial BOPP production line is geared to deliver 30,000 tonnes annually.
The factory is planning to expand its capabilities with the construction of a second production line dedicated to BOPET, marking a significant milestone as the first-ever plant in Vietnam to produce this product. The expansion is projected to yield an annual capacity of 36,000 tonnes per year.
The technological prowess behind A.J. Plast (Vietnam)'s operations is driven by state-of-the-art systems sourced from Germany. These advanced technologies enable the production of BOPP and BOPET films that conform to global standards and are lauded for their exceptional quality.
This technology transfer builds on the expertise of A.J. Plast Plc. in Thailand – with its over 35 years of experience – to ensure that the Vietnam-based factory is equipped to continue the world-class manufacturing standards.
Furthermore, A.J. Plast (Vietnam) diligently adheres to its environmental, social, and governance strategy in its operations, aligning itself with the overarching sustainable development goals of A.J. Plast Plc. and SCG.
An example of its commitment to environmental sustainability is its efficient waste management system. All waste generated during production processes – referred to as post-industrial recycled – is meticulously recycled and repurposed, contributing to a reduction of the ecological footprint and the responsible utilisation of resources.
