According to the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT), international visitors to Vietnam in February 2024 reached more than 1.5 million people, an increase of 1.3 per cent compared to January.
The number of domestic tourists is estimated at 14 million, of which about 4.9 million were staying guests. Total revenue from tourists in the first two months of 2024 is estimated to have reached $5.7 billion.
South Korea continued to be the largest market with 844,000 visits, accounting for 27.7 per cent. China ranked second with 538,000 visits, followed by Taiwan and the United States.
The top 10 largest markets for Vietnamese tourists included Japan with 107,000, Australia with 97,000, and Malaysia with 92,000, followed by India, Cambodia, and Thailand.
The VNAT said that the number of international visitors from all regions in the first two months of 2024 increased strongly compared to the same period in 2023, of which the Asian market led with a growth rate of 77.8 per cent, while Europe and Australia increased 76 per cent and 36.5 per cent, respectively, and the Americas rose slightly by 8.4 per cent.
The Chinese market had an impressive recovery, 7.5 times higher than the same period in 2023. Moreover, major markets continued to grow strongly, including South Korea that increased by 50.7 per cent, Japan by 52.3 per cent, and Taiwan (China) by 120 per cent.
Nearby markets in Southeast Asia including Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia, Philippines, and Indonesia achieved good growth. However, Thailand's market decreased by 22.2 per cent.
Notably, thanks to the effectiveness of favourable visa policies and tourism stimulus programmes, European markets are growing vibrantly, especially markets enjoying unilateral visa exemption policies such as England, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Russia, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway.
