Dr. Duong Thi Hong, deputy head of the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, said at the MoH’s press briefing on April 13 that the first batch of COVID-19 vaccines for the subjects has arrived in Vietnam and would be transported to Quang Ninh on the afternoon of the same day.

She added that children in grade six will be vaccinated first, then those at a younger age. The MoH has detailed a guideline for each batch of vaccines and for each age group.

According to Dr. Phan Trong Lan, head of the General Department of Preventive Medicine, Vietnam has around 11.8 million children aged 5-11. The country aims to vaccine them all in the second quarter.

Vietnam uses Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines for this vaccination. Globally, 53 countries and territories have vaccinated, or have vaccination plans for children of this age. They are mostly more developed countries.
