Deputy Health Minister Nguyen Thanh Long introducing the mobile app for compulsory health declaration

The move is made following a request by Deputy Prime Minister and head of the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control Vu Duc Dam at a meeting on March 8.

Accordingly, people will be able to install this app on their mobile phones and then provide their personal health information as requested.

The information includes name, age, address, health insurance card number, health condition with chronic diseases, as well as any symptoms of coughing, fever, and breathing difficulties, among others. Citizens will also need to provide information to the best of their knowledge about having contacted people suspected of COVID-19 infection, travelling, date of exit and entry from epidemic-infected areas.

The health declaration is similar with the compulsory electronic health declarations for all passengers entering Vietnam which the country has applied since March 7.

Health declaration are useful for health agencies to update on the health situation of local people, and thus implementing timely solutions when necessary.

Dr. Tran Dac Phu from the Ministry of Health (MoH), said that health declaration is compulsory, aiming to help the early detection of any new outbreaks and infections, thus bringing the situation under control in time.

According to the latest update from the MoH, as of 14pm of March 9, COVID-19 has infected 110,026 people, and killed 3,828 globally. The number include 3,119 deaths in China.

Vietnam to date has reported 30 COVID-19 infection cases in 10 cities and provinces, including 16 successfully treated. So far, 2,138 Vietnamese have tested negative to the novel epidemic.
