Japanese clothing retailer UNIQLO has donated VND1 billion ($40,600) and 9,000 clothing items from its RE.UNIQLO scheme to support the residents of northern provinces in the aftermath of Typhoon Yagi.

The contribution from UNIQLO Vietnam will be handed over to the Hope Foundation to implement aid and help those affected by the floods quickly return to normal life. The relief efforts focus on education, including the renovation of damaged classrooms, as well as rebuilding dams and retaining walls to ensure the safety of schools. Additionally, the support includes providing textbooks, school supplies, and clothing that were swept away or soiled by the floods.

Nishida Hideki, general director of UNIQLO Vietnam, said, "Typhoon Yagi has caused significant damage. UNIQLO aims to provide support in collaboration with the Hope Foundation, helping residents overcome difficulties and enabling students to return to a safe, clean learning environment where they can focus on their studies. This is also a crucial part of UNIQLO’s long-term commitment to contributing to the people and society of Vietnam."

Nguyen Xuan Tu, executive director of the Hope Foundation, said "This timely intervention from UNIQLO Vietnam will help the community recover from the aftermath of the floods, particularly students and teachers. In addition to cash, the clothing items donated through the RE.UNIQLO programmes are essential, not only in the post-flood period but also in the upcoming winter."

The RE.UNIQLO initiative has donated more almost 40,000 clothing items to disadvantaged people in provinces such as Dien Bien, Son La, Ha Giang, Yen Bai, and Thanh Hoa. During the pandemic, UNIQLO, in partnership with the Hope Foundation, donated 4,000 AIRism shirts and 1,000 masks to Frontline Healthcare Workers such as doctors and healthcare personnel.

Additionally, at the beginning of 2024, UNIQLO contributed VND1 billion ($40,600) to the Hope Foundation to build a new school in Trong Trai Village, Ho Bon commune, Mu Cang Chai district, Yen Bai province, enhancing educational infrastructure and quality for students and teachers.
