The opening ceremony of the tree festival will take place on August 25 at Cau Ke District Square, staging the images of local farmers closely attached to Cau Ke’s wax coconut trees.
Vu Lan Thang Hoi Week also features a seminar to call for investment into promoting local agricultural item processing and tourism potential. The seminar will provide updates about the province’s policies on funding attraction to the wide community of domestic and foreign investors.
Duong Hoang Sum, director of Tra Vinh Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, and deputy head of the Organising Committee for the event, said, “This distinct event is the first of its kind in the province, engaging the participation of different localities in the Mekong delta region.”
Sum noted that the whole event’s top target is promoting the image and values of Tra Vinh wax coconut and the province’s strong commitment to bringing products made from wax coconut to global markets. It will also help bring forth religious values of the Chinese community living in the district, which has been named a national Intangible Cultural Heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.
The event aims to strengthen links with locations inside and outside the province to diversify tourism offerings as well as call on individuals, organisations, and businesses to invest in elevating Tra Vinh’s tourism potential.
This occasion will also promote distinct One Commune, One Product (OCOP) items made of wax coconut materials, presenting the immense tourism potential of Tra Vinh province.
The event agenda also features a contest on processing 100 delicious dishes from wax coconuts, a trade fair, a lion and dragon dance, images of Vu Lan Thang Hoi, and a wide range of traditional games and sports activities.
The event agenda content as well as diverse cultural, sports, trade fair, and other activities shall be continuously updated at the province’s portal as well as in the websites of relevant local departments and sectors.
Wax coconuts, a distinct fruit of Cau Ke district, has become increasingly popular with domestic and foreign visitors. From 2021, wax coconuts and products made from this distinct fruit were elevated to OCOP-certified, bringing the wax coconut brand to wider domestic and foreign customers, and leveraging effective trade promotion efforts.
Cau Ke’s wax coconuts are now seen on the shelves of supermarkets abroad, and thousands of wax coconut fruit have been exported annually, at a price about 20 per cent higher than selling in the local market.
The economic value of Cau Ke’s wax coconuts are being elevated, leveraging diverse products made from the distinct fruit. As an example, Cau Ke Wax Coconut Processing Co., Ltd. has succeeded in creating many distinct products from the fruit under the Vicosap brand.
Of them, nine products have won 4-star OCOP recognition at provincial level, and one product has won 5-star OCOP recognition at the national level. All products come on par with strict international quality management systems and certificates.
The products are set for export to world’s demanding markets such as Japan, the UK, the US, Hong Kong, and Canada, among others.
