The event has been chosen by Standard Chartered to commemorate 120 years of development in Vietnam. This is the 10th marathon in the prestigious global Standard Chartered Marathon series, which honours endurance, unity, overcoming limits, and adhering to international standards.

This year's race also marks the first collaboration between Standard Chartered and Duc Huong Anh Company (DHA Vietnam), a professional marathon organiser in Vietnam. The collaboration is expected to bring a breakthrough in the development of the event, as the global reputation of the Standard Chartered Marathon brand will attract more world-ranked runners and running enthusiasts from all continents.

Using Standard Chartered's support and connections, DHA Vietnam will have the opportunity to learn from and adopt the organisational standards of the Standard Chartered Marathon series to enhance the hosting of marathons in Vietnam, elevating the status of its marathon on the world map.

The Standard Chartered Hanoi Marathon Heritage Race 2024 includes four adult race distances – 5km, 10km, a half-marathon of 21km, and a full marathon of 42km. There is also a special category for children aged 5-12.

The 2024 season also marks a significant change, with the event venue (start/finish) moving to Thong Nhat Park. This strategic decision ensures the event's long-term development as the number of participating runners continues to grow. The premises in Thong Nhat Park can accommodate tens of thousands of people, providing the best conditions for medical care, post-race recovery, and especially exhibition activities for participating units and sponsors.

A distinctive feature of the Heritage Races is the route. The Organising Committee will soon invite international experts from the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races to survey, advise, and standardise the new race route. The routes are being designed to connect unique landmarks in Hanoi, allowing runners to experience the heritage of the capital in the cool weather and the breathtaking beauty of autumn-winter in Hanoi.

Along with the race route, all events organised as part of the race adhere to sustainable criteria, honouring the enduring value of heritage, and blending sports, culture, and art.

The Hanoi race is the 10th marathon in the Standard Chartered Marathon franchise and has been chosen to kick off a series of activities commemorating 120 years of Standard Chartered's presence in Vietnam.

Nguyen Tri, representative of DHA Vietnam said, "Marathons in the region have developed strongly and gained a reputation through cooperation with Standard Chartered. This international-level race aims to create a platform for everyone, from professional to amateur runners, encouraging the community to enhance its physical fitness and promoting running as a cultural and sporting feature of the capital."

"At the same time, it elevates the stature of Vietnam's marathon on the world map, contributing to the sustainable development of tourism in the nation, and making it a favourite destination for runners and the international community," Tri added.

Michele Wee, CEO of Standard Chartered Vietnam said, “We are very proud to be the title sponsor, bringing the first edition of the Standard Chartered Hanoi Marathon Heritage Race, an event that celebrates the richness of culture and heritage. Leveraging the expertise from our Standard Chartered Marathon franchise, we aim to bring differences and enhance the experience for all participants. This is a testament to our strong commitment to the country as we look forward to long-term and sustainable growth in Vietnam – 120 years and beyond.”
