In the context of Vietnam's economic, cultural, and social recovery after a long disruption by the COVID-19 pandemic, the seventh Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival themed "I love Vietnamese Ao Dai"(Vietnamese traditional long gown) is the opening event of the "Hello Ho Chi Minh City" campaign to introduce visitors a “safe, vibrant, friendly, and exciting” city while restarting the city tourism.
Accordingly, the seventh Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival will be the very first festival held in a completely new way, through a combination of online and offline events to bring visitors and the public a unique festival of an international scale. The seventh Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival in 2020 will last for two months from October 11 to November 20, 2020.
The "I love Vietnamese Ao Dai" contest/online campaign will feature state-of-the-art technology, the so-called personalised video application to help Ao Dai lovers all over the world produce a video by themselves based on sample videos provided on the festival website and promote the beauty of Ao Dai as well as Ao Dai culture. With the power of advanced technology, Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival 2020 aims to become the "Festival of Ao Dai lovers" and bring it to the world.
The inspiring Ao Dai programme will be held at several tourist destinations, such as the War Remnants Museum, the City Post Office, high schools, and industrial parks in the city with the participation of well-known artists and celebrities to inspire young generations to appreciate the beauty of Vietnamese ao dai.
The "Ao Dai – the Cultural Heritage" seminar at Ao Dai Museum will also touch upon Vietnam's intangible cultural heritages such as hat xoan (a traditional singing style), Quan Ho, Mau Tam phu worship, Vi-giam folk singing, Hue royal music performance, and don ca tai tu. The programme aims to contribute to preserving and promoting the unique traditional cultural value of national costumes.
Other activities will be organised by the Ao Dai Museum, the Southern Women Museum, and the War Remnants Museum such as: Ao Dai talk show (an exchange between the Association of Tea Cultural Heritage and Ao Dai Museum), Ao Dai Awards Ceremony for teachers and culturalists, as well as “Lam thon” dance in traditional costumes of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia, a ticket discount promotion for visitors and citizens wearing Ao Dai when visiting and organising an Ao Dai exhibition, etc. Tourism businesses will organise tours to stimulate visits for the Ao Dai Museum, the South-Vietnamese Women Museum.
Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival 2020 also features celebrities such as People’s Artist Kim Xuan, People’s Artist Phi Dieu, Artist Trinh Kim Chi, Nguyen Tran Khanh Van – Miss Universe Vietnam 2019, and Tran Tieu Vy – Miss Vietnam 2018, among others.
Besides, well-known designers including Si Hoang, Vo Viet Chung, Do Trinh Hoai Nam, Lien Huong, Ngo Nhat Huy, Viet Hung, Tuan Hai, Ella Thuy, Nguyen Tuan, Ta Linh Nhan, Nhat Dung, Hanh Le, OZ Design House, and Vu Thao Giang will also join Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival 2020.
