An Giang province is looking for investment to re-enforce agriculture and build out tourism |
Vuong Binh Thanh, Chairman of the An Giang People’s Committee said that based on its natural advantages, potential, and historical values accumulated through numerous generations, agriculture and tourism are still the strengths of the province and will remain the key motivators of growth in the time coming.
Thanh said: “With the desire for growth, and determination to successfully implement the plan set forth, An Giang is building a dynamic and creative government to create a favourable business and investment climate. The recent efforts of the province to reform administration and improve the business climate have been recognised and highly appreciated as can be seen in indexes such as the PCI and PAPI. We keep striving to create favourable conditions and become a destination of successful co-operation.”
Highlighting the potentials of An Giang, chairman of Sao Mai Group Le Thanh Thuan said that when looking for opportunities in An Giang, the group realised the potential of eco-tourism and resort development and foresees that this will change the face of provincial tourism. After research, the group assigned An Giang Tourism JSC (a subsidiary of Sao Mai Group) to invest VND130 billion ($5.65 million) into Tra Su acacia forest eco-tourism project on an area of 159ha, land clearance funds of over VND50 billion ($2.17 million).
Sharing about their success of applying hi-technology in shrimp farming, Dang Quoc Tuan, vice chairman of Viet-Uc Seafood Corporation said that the corporation has developed a hi-tech pangasius production area in Vinh Hoa ward, Tan Chau town, pioneering technology in selecting pangasius for breeding, contributing to developing high-quality pangasius farming in the province, raising added value in the sector, and improving the competitiveness of pangasius in the world market.

Speaking at the conference, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said that An Giang is a land of legends, home to a great portion of Vietnam’s history and cultural values, and one of the most attractive areas in the Mekong Delta and Vietnam.
An Giang nowadays is a huge bowl of rice and fish and offers one the most diversified ecosystems in Vietnam, along with astable border area of trade, peace, and prosperity.
The PM said that with the Tien and Hau rivers flowing parallel for nearly 100km, An Giang is the most fertile province in the country. Thereby, the province should attract big enterprises and develop global brands of Vietnamese agricultural products. He also noted that seven mountains in An Giang contain Oriental spiritual values, which is interesting for tourists and facilitates investment. The PM called for more investors to An Giang to contribute to the socioeconomic development of the province and create jobs through gainful business activities.
The conference is a starting step for the development of An Giang in 2019 and the next years as well as for the province to pioneer the implementation of Resolution No.120/NQ-CP, dated November 2017,on the sustainable and climate resilient development of the Mekong Delta. Being the most populous in the area and located at the entrance of the Mekong River to Vietnam, the success of An Giang will facilitate the development of the entire south-western region.
At the conference, leaders of An Giang handed over in-principle approvals to 26 projects with the total registered investment capital of VND27.6 trillion ($1.2 billion), and signed Memoranda of Understanding with nine investors, representing the total investment capital of over VND105 trillion ($4.56 billion).
