It was recently reported that South Korea had prohibited the import of Vietnamese chilli due to the discovery of a substance found in antifungal agrochemicals, tricyclazole, exceeding the permissible limit. These rumours since been proven untrue.
No restriction on Vietnamese chilli to South Korea

Speaking with VIR on July 13, Hong Sun, president of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Vietnam said, "There are no plans to outlaw chilli imports from Vietnam."

The Plant Protection Department (PPD) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) stated that it has not received any notice about South Korea prohibiting or suspending the importation of Vietnamese chilli products. The rumour has been traced back to an incident involving a single shipment of chilli products from Vietnam, not for all chilli products from Vietnam.

The PPD has confirmed this with the Vietnam Sanitary and Phytosanitary Notification Authority and Enquiry Point under the MARD, and identified Long Thanh Co., Ltd as the shipper in question.

Vietnamese businesses are required to conduct inspections prior to export at one of eight laboratories approved by South Korean partners for testing pesticide residue, and there are concerns from the PPD that the spread of inaccurate information can adversely influence the image of Vietnamese chilli.

Vietnam exported approximately 5,000 tonnes of chilli in 2022, generating an export turnover of $12 million.
