On behalf of the VWU, Tran Lan Phuong presented the VWU's merit medal “For the Development of Vietnamese Women" to Binu Jacob, CEO of Nestlé Vietnam |
On March 31, at the headquarters of the Vietnam Women's Union (VWU), Tran Lan Phuong, vice president of the VWU, had a working session with Binu Jacob, CEO of Nestlé Vietnam, to discuss the results of strategic cooperation between the two sides in the 2020-2024 period and the direction of activities for the 2025-2027 period.
Based on a shared commitment and goal to encourage gender equality, Nestlé Vietnam and the VWU signed a cooperation agreement to implement the “Nestlé Accompanies Women” initiative in December 2020. The programme aims to encourage gender equality and women's empowerment activities through healthcare, nutrition, and safety for women and children; digital applications; supporting women to start businesses and increasing income; and improving quality of life, contributing to supporting women to develop comprehensively in the digital transformation period.
By the end of 2024, the programme had provided knowledge and skills for more than 25,400 members, helping more than two million households access knowledge about nutrition and food safety and hygiene, helping to create and maintain thousands of sustainable livelihood models for women.
Phuong said, “The VWU highly appreciates Nestlé Vietnam's support and cooperation in the union's movements through the "Nestlé Accompanies Women" programme. The initiative provides female members with more knowledge and skills to access and apply digital technology, earn more income to improve the quality of family life, and enhance their power and courage. Going forward, the two sides will discuss integrating this cooperation programme into major government projects, such as the women's startup drive, with a view to bringing practical effects to more members."
Within the framework of the working session, Phuong, on behalf of the VWU, presented Jacob the VWU's merit medal, “For the Development of Vietnamese Women,” for the company's positive contribution to the goals of encouraging gender equality and empowering women as well as building Vietnamese women in the new era through the cooperation programme between the two sides.
“Nestlé Vietnam appreciates the recognition of the VWU. We consider this an important motivation to continue effective cooperation activities between the two sides to support female members, especially women in rural areas. Thus, women can have the opportunity to develop themselves to affirm their position in the family as well as at the workplace, ready to adapt and grow with Vietnam in the new era,” Jacob said.
Established in Vietnam in 1995, throughout its 30-year journey, Nestlé Vietnam has always upheld its commitment to join hands to improve the quality of life of Vietnamese people. Through multi-stakeholder engagement to create shared value, Nestlé Vietnam has continuously strived to contribute to the realisation of Vietnam's sustainable and inclusive development goals, including encouraging gender equality and empowering women.
This commitment is implemented by the company through programmes to empower and develop female leaders, initiatives to support female farmers, and especially through the long-term strategic cooperation programme "Nestlé Accompanies Women" in collaboration with the VWU.
With specific contributions in gender equality and women's empowerment, Nestlé Vietnam was honoured to receive the Certificate of Merit from the VWU for its outstanding achievements in the movement “the entire country joins hands to build new rural areas."
The company was awarded commemorative medals for contributions to "For the Development of Vietnamese Women" as well as for contributions and companionship with the VWU in the work of preventing and fighting the Covid-19 pandemic, overcoming the consequences of natural disasters and floods.
