Moc Chau announced as national tourism area

On the evening of May 18, Son La province held a ceremony to recognise Moc Chau as the eighth national tourism area in Vietnam. The event featured an artistic programme themed ‘Moc Chau, Van Ho - Beautiful Highlands’ with nearly 450 artists and performers, attracting many locals and tourists.

Moc Chau Plateau is blessed with extraordinary natural landscapes, featuring a network of caves, waterfalls, and majestic mountain scenery such as Doi Cave, Dai Yem-Tat Nang-Nang Tien Waterfall, Pha Luong Mountain, and the hot springs in Phu Mau village. The lush green tea hills are another major draw for visitors to Moc Chau.

Speaking at the announcement ceremony, Trang Thi Xuan, Vice Chairwoman of Son La People's Committee said, "To ensure that Moc Chau national tourism area continues to develop and meets its potential as a national tourism area, Son La province will continue to focus on investing in infrastructure, technical facilities, and tourism services as well as improving and enhancing the criteria already achieved by the national tourism area."

Son La organised a series of tourism activities during this event, such as cultural space exhibitions; showcasing tourism products, OCOP items, and ethnic cuisine spaces; experiential tourism activities at Moc Chau national tourism area; a Fruit Harvest Festival at Na Ka Valley, Pa Khen sub-area; paragliding events, and the VTV Cup 2024 Mountain Bike Race.

Moc Chau national tourism area spans over 200,000 hectares, covering Moc Chau and Van Ho districts, and includes four national-level relics and nearly 20 provincial-level relics.

It also boasts many distinctive ethnic groups such as Thai, Mong, Dao, Xinh Mun, La Ha, and Muong.

"Natural and cultural tourism resources are strengths of Moc Chau tourism, driving sustainable tourism growth. Son La province is committed to preserving its natural landscapes and cultural authenticity, creating unique attractions to draw tourists," said Tran Xuan Viet, deputy director of Moc Chau Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.

The recognition of Moc Chau as a national tourism area will be a significant catalyst for Son La province to continue is tourism development.
