The Ministry of Transport has officially selected the lotus design for Long Thanh International Airport in Dong Nai province.
lotus design chosen for long thanh airport
The design was developed by South Korean firm Heerim Architects and Planners Co., Ltd

The design was developed by South Korean firm Heerim Architects and Planners Co., Ltd which used the lotus throughout the design, from the airport's roof to the interior. The Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) used the legally approved tendering process for the competition.

ACV will ask Heerim to provide engineering designs and a financial plan for the project. If everything goes smoothly, ACV will submit the feasibility plan to the government in June.

ACV held a design contest for Long Thanh International Airport in 2016. The new airport is intended to help ease overloading at Tan Son Nhat Airport in HCM City.

Despite Heerim's proposed bid costing more than rival submissions, the Ministry of Transport and experts in the appraisal board chose the lotus design. The ministry was also given the authority to complete the design.

Long Thanh International Airport will cover 5,000 hectares with an investment of USD16.03bn. It will have the capacity to serve 100 million passengers and 5 million tonnes of cargo annually. Long Thanh is also intended to become a key regional aviation hub.
