By the beginning of the second quarter, Vietnam had received an estimated 7.7 million international visitors, an increase of nearly 23 per cent compared to the same period last year.

Air travel remained the dominant mode of entry, with over 6.6 million arrivals, followed by land with nearly 925,000 arrivals and sea with close to 160,000. In the first four months of the year, passenger transport was estimated at 1.88 million passengers, an on-year increase of 19 per cent.

China continues to be the leading source of visitors, followed by South Korea, Taiwan, Japan. The four Northeast Asian markets contributed a combined 4.2 million visitors, accounting for nearly 60 per cent of the total number. India and Cambodia also ranked highly.

Russia, the Philippines, Cambodia, China, Laos, and Poland were among the countries with the highest growth rates in the first four months of the year, with increases ranging from 150 to over 200 per cent on-year.

Accommodation and food services generated an estimated $10.4 billion for the period. Several localities, including Quang Ninh, Danang, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and Haiphong, recorded revenue growth ranging from 15 to 19 per cent.

Revenue from travel and tourism is estimated to exceed $1.2 trillion for the quarter, driven by high travel demand during holidays, Lunar New Year, and especially the grand celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification.

With over 7.6 million international visitors in the first four months of the year, VNAT considers this a positive sign towards the goal of welcoming 22 – 23 million international visitors this year.
