First ever international 7-a-side BIA SAIGON Cup Championship 2022 kick starts |
The Vietnam Premier League, now known as Bia Saigon Cup 2022 (VPL-S3) returned last June with a bigger league, expanded from two to five cities: Hanoi, Dak Lak, Nha Trang, Ho Chi Minh City, and Can Tho.
Based on the success of this league, Vietfootball together with Bia Saigon as the main sponsor has organised the first-ever International Seven-A-Side Bia Saigon Cup 2022 Football Championship from 23-25 December 2022 in Hanoi.
This marks a desire to elevate the seven-a-side football format both in Vietnam and internationally with the aim for longer-term development of the sport, as well as the creation of sustainable values for communities.
This first International Seven-A-Side Bia Saigon Cup 2022 Championship will start with four football teams representing Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia.
The championship will help to promote Vietnam’s unique football format by creating an opportunity for seven-a-side teams in Southeast Asia to compete, play and exchange knowledge while bringing the best Vietnamese football culture to the region and the world.
Pham Ngoc Tuan – head of the organisation said, “The recent Bia Saigon Cup 2022 was completed successfully. This is seven-a-side competition system at the national level which we have received various support from many parties. Through the success, VietFootball is setting a new goal to organise the International seven-a-side football championship annually.
"Apart from introducing Vietnam’s unique football format, we hope that this format will become better known, accepted, and popularised in Southeast Asia and eventually all of Asia, contributing to the organisation of similar football leagues.”

Being held for the first time, the competition received full support from the Vietnam Football Federation, national football federations as well as the Asian Football Confederation, as this championship create a breakthrough to promote the development of this football format in Southeast Asia.
Bennett Neo, general manager of SABECO said, “Bia Saigon has always been a huge loyal supporter of football and football fans. As the exclusive beer sponsor of the Vietnam National Football Teams, Bia Saigon is proud to continue our commitment to support the development of Vietnam’s football by being the main sponsor of this International seven-a-side Championship. We are pleased to accompany Vietfootball in the quest to elevate the stature of the seven-a-side football format as we believe this will be a great platform to support the growth of incredible football talents in Vietnam.”
Previously, the league completed with great success with the finals held in Hanoi last September, where the league has received an outpouring of love and support from all football lovers in Vietnam. The intense final match between ECO and Dat Tin registered a record attendance as well as spectators via live streaming and broadcast.
The success of this league is attributed to the professional organisation, investment, and careful preparations of all participating teams across all five cities.
The support and cooperation from the Vietnam Sports Administration, Vietnam Football Federation, Departments of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the community, as well as accompanying sponsors have given the nation the opportunity to witness the intense positive impact of football on society.
