The 2024 survey for World's Best Awards, which saw participation from over 186,000 respondents, evaluated cities based on criteria including attractions, culture, cuisine, friendliness, shopping, and value. In total, there were more than 700,000 reviews on more than 8,700 establishments (including hotels, cities, and cruise lines).
Hoi An garnered a remarkable overall score of 90.67, cementing its position as a must-visit destination, appealing to a diverse range of tourists from history buffs to foodies.

Hoi An's tourism industry has recovered to pre-COVID-19 pandemic levels, with international visitors accounting for over 70 per cent of the market share.
In 2023, Hoi An welcomed four million visitors, including three million international tourists, a more than 327 per cent increase compared to the previous year. Total overnight stays exceeded 1.5 million, up over 100 per cent on-year, with 1.2 million from international guests.
For 2024, Hoi An aims to attract 4.3 million visitors, comprising over 3.2 million international tourists and more than one million domestic travellers.
Besides Hoi An, the top two most attractive destinations in Asia, as recognised by World's Best Awards 2024, are Udaipur (India) and Kyoto (Japan). Udaipur also ranked second in the world's most attractive cities' category, while San Miguel de Allende (Mexico) claimed the top spot.
