Hanoi maintains strong tourism momentum with double-digit growth in July

Hanoi Department of Tourism has reported a robust performance in July, with the capital welcoming approximately 2.8 million visitors, up 10.3 per cent on-year.

According to a report released by the department on July 25, international arrivals were estimated at 553,190, a sharp 25.2 per cent increase, including around 390,000 overnight stays. Domestic tourism also remained buoyant, with 2.25 million travellers recorded, rising 7.1 per cent compared to the same period last year. Tourism revenue for the month reached an estimated $419 million, marking a 13.9 per cent on-year increase.

Cumulatively, in the first seven months of the year, Hanoi received 18.36 million visitors, an 11.6 per cent increase on-year. This figure included 4.21 million international arrivals, up 22.3 per cent, with 2.97 million staying overnight. Domestic visitors totalled 14.15 million, an 8.7 per cent rise. Total revenue generated from tourism during the period was estimated at $2.86 billion, up 14.5 per cent on-year.

Hanoi currently boasts 3,761 accommodation establishments with over 71,200 rooms, including 85 hotels and serviced apartments ranked between one and five stars. Despite the growth in arrivals, average room occupancy in July reached 56.94 per cent, down by 1.6 percentage points compared to the same period last year.

Efforts to improve service quality have also been reflected in the number of tourism service providers meeting recognised standards. The capital now has 58 certified tourism service establishments, comprising 25 dining venues, 22 shopping outlets, and nine entertainment sites, all contributing to enhanced visitor experiences and increased spending.

According to Dang Huong Giang, director of Hanoi Department of Tourism, the focus for August will shift towards commemorating the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and Vietnam’s National Day on September 2. The department will advise on organising a conference on tourism destination management and development, while simultaneously promoting the capital’s image abroad.

Hanoi is set to participate in a series of international promotional events, including the Osaka Expo, a cultural and tourism showcase in Nagoya (Japan), and the ITB India trade fair. Domestically, the department is working closely with localities to develop new tourism products under the theme “Hanoi Tourism - A Convergence of Quintessence 2025”. Key areas of focus will include agricultural tourism, night tours, golf tourism, and community-based offerings aligned with traditional ethnic cultural experiences.

Among the city’s key upcoming highlights is the Hanoi Beverage Festival 2025, which is expected to further strengthen the capital’s tourism appeal. With a clear focus on sustainability and quality, Hanoi’s tourism sector is positioning itself to attract higher visitor volumes in the months ahead, while supporting long-term growth objectives.
