Gemalink Port achieved its first one million TEUs |
Gemalink has become a model port and the pride of locals as it launched into the top 19 commercial ports capable of receiving the world's largest ships, with up to more than 200,000DWT.
This is a memorable milestone, as for the first time in the history of Vietnam's port industry, a port achieved one million TEUs throughput – just after one year into operation.
The ceremony featured the presence of many partners and customers, many of whom are big shipping lines including CMA-CGM, Maersk Line, Cosco, and Evergreen, as well as import-export businesses, and executive representatives of Gemadept Corporation, Gemalink Port, and the port staff.
Undergoing last year with great challenges, Gemalink asserted its outstanding role by maintaining smooth cargo flow, relieving the congestion at Cai Mep-Thi Vai seaport complex, and safely bringing Vietnamese goods to the Americas, Europe, and Asia.

In order to meet the increasing demand for shipping lines on long routes to North America and Europe, Gemalink is rushing to prepare the final steps of its second phase, slated to be put into operation from the end of 2023.
“The first million TEUs mark a new milestone for Gemalink and also confirm the dynamics of the port of Cai Mep, making our ambition to reach 1.5 million TEUs in 2022 achievable,” said Benoit Klein, CEO of Gemalink Port. “Another ambition is the extension of the terminal which we plan to start this year, which will allow us to double the capacity to meet the ever-increasing demand of our customers and the market.”
