Final round of Techfest Vietnam 2023 held in Ho Chi Minh City

The first part of the competition ran from May 23 to September 9 after receiving more than 500 applications from across the country. Teams had to present their solutions and products, built around green and sustainable business models, while the organising committee selected the startups with the most potential. The ten best teams gathered in Ho Chi Minh City on November 24 for the final round of the contest.

Winning teams receive prizes with a total value of more than VND18 billion ($760,000). Winners also receive benefits to help them with market development, product promotion, communication, workspace support, exhibition display, and training.

The competition aims to connect domestic startups with the overseas Vietnamese community seeking innovative investment opportunities and has attracted thousands of startups, experts, investors, and investment funds from the technology sector in the past.

Speaking about the quality of the teams this year, Lam Quoc Thai, investment manager at VinaCapital Ventures and a semi-final judge, said, “Teams that have reached the final 20 of the competition have all shown promise commercially and also in terms of their ability to create a positive social impact. We hope to have the opportunity to continue supporting many such startups in the future.”

Will Klippgen, managing partner and co-founder at Cocoon Capital, and juror for the selection of the final 20 teams, said “This year's competition demonstrates the diversity among participating startups. There are deep-tech startups and solutions targeting the industrial sector and state agencies, among many others."

Besides digital transformation platforms and services, there are also innovative solutions for new materials, bioplastics, degradable plastics, non-chemical disinfectants, and products related to energy storage and saving.

Techfest is the largest annual event for innovative startups in Vietnam, aiming to bring together experts and reputable startup support organisations at home and abroad to provide orientation for ecosystem development.

The event is organised by the Ministry of Science and Technology in coordination with various other government agencis and socio-political organisations within the startup ecosystem.
